I'm actually asking this question for a friend, I hope you guys can help me out!

She's looking at an offsite Marriott hotel and was told the shuttle to the parks is $5 a day per person. Is that normal?

The time I stayed offsite there was a free shuttle, but I don't have a lot of experience to share with her on this issue.

Thanks!

Tamie

Im not sure if this is normal either. It seems to me, she should be able to get a car (assuming there are 4 in her party) for about the same or a little less per day, and she wouldn't have to pay a cab (or other transportation) to get her to her offsite hotel...

I would call the hotel that you plan to stay and ask then, if they charge a fee for the shuttle services. Most hotels offers the free shuttle service. So ask them first!

Marriott seems to charge for a lot of things. In fact, a lot of the hotels in the area charge for their shuttle service to the parks these days. Many simply contract with an outside company to provide shuttle buses, which stop at multiple hotels to visit the parks each day.

The Marriott Orlando World Center does charge for their shuttle service. The hotels on Hotel Plaza Blvd. near Downtown Disney do not charge extra. Fairfield Orlando at Bonnet Creek Resort does not charge for their shuttle service. Sheraton Vistana Resort doesn't charge their nightly rental guests but they do charge their weekly stays. Call ahead and ask.

Another charge required by Marriott and some of the other upscale hotels (including Swan, Dolphin, MOWC, Gaylord Palms, etc.) is a daily "resort fee." This is usually non-negotiable and may be up to $15/day. Some upscale hotels also charge a daily parking fee if you have a car. Many hotels charge a daily "safe usage" fee for the inroom safe. Most hotels in the Orlando area charge a fee for local phone calls, some charge even when you use an "800" # for long distance calls.

All of these fees are worth asking about when making a reservation because they can add up. Priceline and other discount reservations services may or may not tell you about these fees, which are due either at check-in or check-out.

I've stayed offsite plenty of times. I've only used the offsite shuttles for one trip. After that I wouldn't use them again. Ours was free. The biggest problems we had were they only ran a few times a day. Pretty much there was 2 trips in the morning and 2 trips in the evening (not always after park hours either). If the shuttle was full or you were late- you were out of luck. It didn't allow too much time to be flexible. You can get a cheap compact car for a good rate if you shop around.
