Just read this on MouseSavers....anyone ever gotten this...

FREE Pin With Purchase

On the first Sunday of each month, you will receive a FREE pin with a purchase of $25 or more in pins and pin accessories (after any applicable discount and before tax) at shops throughout the Disneyland Resort. The pin is predetermined and changes monthly. This appears to be an unpublished offer, so it's subject to change at any time, though it's been around for years. Thanks to Jackie for updated info.

If so where?

I've heard of free pin with purchase offers many times. Though now I think of recent park visits. Throw Blankets seem to come to mind. It seems that World of Disney or the Emporium do this.

Yes! I forgot about this. It is true, they give out whatever pins they have available and out of season.

I got a Goofy in a coffin (Halloween) pin in April.

It is great though, because if you don't like it just trade it when you see a cast member! Woot.

:cloud9:

Huh. Are they really still doing this? I haven't been for a first Sunday in about a year now, but they weren't doing it then which was a little disappointing. It used to be a promotion with a theme, usually in sets of 6. I have all the Tiki birds ones and most of the Mansion ones. There was another set too which DH managed to collect (Jungle Cruise maybe?). We didn't go to the park often enough to get all of them as free pins with purchase, but they would be on trading lanyards, and we would complete our sets that way.

The pin promotion that I see nowadays lets you buy a mystery pin for $1 with $30 purchase (after discounts, before tax). They seem to be offering that promo all the time, so we usually end up with one or two of these $1 pins when we go down.

Last time we went to WDW ('08) they would give you a pin with a $25 purchase - but it was not a leftover pin, it was a chaser. I only got it once and they had several to choose from.

They also had a promo - in all the shops - that if you spent a certain amount you could get a special item really cheap. They changed them every other day while we were there, one time it was a quilt (those $50 ones) for $15. I did not think of taking advantage of the promo until we got to the airport and had some time to kill. I went to the DS there and got a couple of keychains and a shirt - and for an extra $10 I got the big WDW shopper bag. Looove that bag, use it all the time and it is a great carry-on ;)

We have the Tiki birds, the HM ones (we have extras, let me know what you need and maybe we can work out a trade for what you are missing) and the JC set as well. :)

Super!! Next sunday is the first sunday of March, so I'll definitely be taking advantage of this offer :thumbsup2

Please let us know if they are doing this again.......they had stopped this back in Jan 2010, we were there for the first Sunday and when we bought pins we didn't get any free ones, we asked and they said they weren't doing it anymore. :(

After reading this thread, I just had to go through my pin books this afternoon. I was so inspired we finally put together the shadow box displays we've been meaning to do for the past year. Did up a Star Wars themed one, a Mickey themed one, a characters as pirates one... DS9 just had to do a Seven Dwarves theme one. They look awesome! Anyway, I digress. While looking through the pins, it appears the only one I was missing from the HM set was the Pluto one. I don't really have anything to trade right now, but thanks for the offer! Looks like DS did manage to get the whole JC set, and I knew already that I had the Tiki birds one.

Yeah, I haven't managed to be in the park for a first Sunday since August 2009. I did notice last year when they started the $1 pins with purchase, and the CM I first asked about it referred to it as their new promotion and compared it to the gift with purchase program. I kind of took this for the replacement. Fits in I guess since the other merchandise promotions around the parks are usually purchase with purchase rather than gift with purchase. When we were there last week, the purchase with purchase was cool for us pin collectors though. With any $40 purchase, not just pins, you could buy a starter lanyard with 8 pins for $15.95. We ended up purchasing two so we could use them as traders.

Could you post a picture of the shadow boxes? I'd be interested in how they turned out.

Well, keep in mind that they look awesome to me. We didn't really do them up with special decorations or anything. It's just nice to have the pins out on display instead of closed up in some dusty pin bag in the bedroom. We got a couple small rectangular boxes from Michael's and a couple square ones from IKEA. We used cork board which we then covered with either felt or scrapbook paper.

So I just took a couple pictures, they don't come out great through the glass (and, yes, I turned off the flash). I just perused the FAQ here...I've never posted a picture to the board before...and even after reading this can't figure out how to do it if I haven't uploaded it to a website which I don't do...so not sure if I'm going to figure out the picture thing for you...

ETA: OK. I just did a search and figured out that, yes, I do have to upload to a website and then post the link here to get a picture on here. Just never felt motivated to post any pictures here before and have never had need to join one of those photo websites. I pretty much let DH handle all the hard drives and cloud services and photo archiving and so on... I can ask him if he already uses a site to post photos and maybe figure this out eventually.

I will be there Next Sunday too...I will have to ask where they do this?

I am not pin trader but free is free!!!

Very interesting. With lots of motivation I sometimes make furniture so I was curious as to what you had made. If you post a picture that will be great. If not, no worries.

No worries, Pluto was one we didn't have an extra of. :)

I am not pin trader but free is free!!!

They do this at the shop next to Buzz, PT Flea in DCA, the pin store in FL, and in the DTD pin store. :) Those are the places I remember getting the free pin. :) BUT you have to BUY pins to get the free ones....I mention that because you say you aren't a pin trader. :)

Matt I haven't forgotten I need to take and post photos for you to see...I have them set out, I just need to take the pictures and post them. :)

I was there in October, but not the first Sunday in October, and got a free pin iwth my purchase at the pin store in Frontierland.

Alas, PT Flea is no more. I hope DCA gets a nice dedicated pin shop when all the construction dust settles.

Huh, so maybe it's still going on and I just haven't been lucky enough to encounter it. Will be interested to read if the OP finds out about the current status of this.

Yeah, the PT Flea building is somewhere behind construction walls now. They moved it back near the Paradise Pier dining area that's getting revamped. Last I heard, the structure was going to be repurposed in some way related to the dining venue, not as a shop. Our family loved that little shop too and spent a bit of time there. I'm really hoping they come up with something to replace this.

Yes the PT Flea building is now in the corner of the park near the new Pizza and Pasta place and Goofy's Sky School. From what I've hear the building will just be for seating.

It's hard to say if DCA will get another full on pin location. It seems they have them everywhere so a single purpose shop may not be nessecary. Though if it was up to me in Carsland that's what Lizzie's Curio shop would be perfect for.
