Hi

Can anyone give me any ideas to do with a 4 yr old birthday girl that is fairly reasonable... we are pinching pennies to go so I can not afford a character meal... any ideas..

Thanks

Vickie

Maybe the afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian? You order off a menu so you can make it very reasonable as to the money you spend. I've heard great things about it.

This is one of the items. Maybe it could be a late lunch.

Mrs. Potts Tea - For the younger tea lover in your party, we offer a variety of tea sandwiches, tuna salad, ham and cheese, peanut butter and jelly on white bread. We serve our magical dark tea (chocolate milk), followed by a choice of 2 pastries $8.50 per guest

Go get her a birthday pin from Disney guest services , they are free! You can eat anywhere and tell them its her birthday and most places will bring out a cupcake and sing happy birthday.
Take her to Ariels Grotto and have her picture taken with Ariel. You can go to toontown and find all the princesses there.....buy her a princess dress from walmart and let her wear it on her special day!

DD had her 2nd b-day at WDW. She was wearing her Birthday pin in the hotel lobby and the CM asked who her favorite character was. She said Minnie and later that afternoon when we returned form the parks there was a photo b-day card of Minnnie with a Happy Birthday message for her.

anymore neat ideas.. they don't have to be free even.. just cheap or a good deal.. I got a 5.00 gift card from Rainforest so I thought about stopping there for a snack one day with her.

Here is the link to the list of Freebies at WDW...

Also in EPCOT there are FUNSTOPS for the kids to make fun crafts. DD got a mask to color and then they put it on a stick. In every country they stamped it and she received a new item to hang in the mask. She loved it. She also made a craft at the Living Seas...I am sure someone here can give you more info as to specific places these funspots are. I can't remember them all.
There is lots to do at WDW that are little extras. There are many playgrounds at all the hotels. We took the monorail from the Ticket and Transport to Poly to walk around we played on the playground and then watched the electric parade from the beach. We had a bite to eat and then went back to our hotel to swim. Also if you can get to the AKL there are animals to see and the hotel is nice to walk around. I dont know how much mini golf costs but DD loved doing that. We also enjoyed walking around Down Town Disney. We walked at night and DD loved the Legostore. There is a small playgorund there that we had to drag her away from. We had a bite to eat at McDonalds and then later had ice cream at Giardellis (spelling?) There is a coupon on the website for 2 for 1 sundies or buy on get one 1/2 off. You just have to sign up and say that you live within a certain distance. Put yes even if you dont so you can use the coupon in DTD. They have a MerryGoRound and a small train there also that are fun.
If you have a car or take the bus and can get to the POR you can take the boat to DTD the boat ride was fun and DD Loved it. We met quite a few people who were not at our hotel who were parking their or taking the bus and then riding the boat. If you can get the bus to any of the hotels you can take a boat ride from the Poly, Contemporary, GF to MK. You can also do the Monorail which is FUN!!! I am pretty sure other hotels have boats to the parks...Swan and Dophin to Epcot?? Taking a boat or the monorail is fun and FREE!! My DD loved the boat ride and she still remembers them.
The small water play areas in the parks are FUN!! Bring her bathing suit along and she will love that.
If you can do one character meal I would suggest Chef Mickeys or Crystal Palace. Both DD loved and the food was good. We went for breakfast and she didnt need lunch as she ate lots of food at the buffet. I know you said you didnt think it was something you could do but it may be worth it if you dont have to do a lunch that day.
I hope you have a great trip! Your DD will find lots to do!

The freebie realm seems covered, I just wanted to add to be sure to ask to sit with the monorail driver on your child's birthday. You will enjoy it.
