Not sure if this has been shared in past but my dd's school had flyers for a summer reading program. You just print off a sheet(download passport) at the web page http://www.barnesandnoble.com/summerreading/index.asp
kids read any 8 books and fill in the locations from the books and they can choose from a list of books on the form. They also get entered for a drawing on a autographed collections of 39 Clues books(? never heard of them but dd is excited to read her 8).

Borders also has a summer reading program. It's on the website-sorry I can't post a link right now. Read 10 books and get a free book-- selection is listed at the bottom if the sheet you print out.

Cool maybe she can do both. DD loves books and has a pretty large collection.

What do you mean by "fill in the location from the book"?

When you look at the passport to be printed, it says "be sure to fill in the location you visit in each book". Seems like a one-word book report. Goes along with the passport idea. :)

Thanks for the Borders info. I knew about Barnes and Noble. My young niece is doing their program but she loves to read so I bet she can do them both too without even duplicating books. That would kind of be like cheating!

We just returned from B & N. ds has ripped through Percy jackson and 39 clues this summer. He walked out with Guardians of Ga'houle. Glad he'll read b4 seeing movie.

This is the one reason my dd hasnt turned hers in. I didnt know if it meant where the story took place or where she got the book. I told her just leave it blank but she said no it has to be filled out:confused3

We did at the store. they told us to just write one location that the story took place in. it was very easy to do/turn in.

Thanks for reminding me we need to turn these in!

by place did they mean a state/country or less specific like "school" etc is enough? DD said only place so far in the current book she is reading was school.

DD and DS both turned theirs in today. DS reads (rather, is read) lots of dinosaur books, so we just "Prehistoric Times" for the locations. DD had lots of answers, like Asia, treehouse, 1900's etc.

they take them up to Sept I guess but yeah sooner the better. :thumbsup2

We ended up running up to Barnes and Noble after dinner and getting The Calder Game and Guardians of Ga'houle. DS 8 was allowed to choose a book of the 5th and 6th grade list which was great since he had read most of the books on the 3rd and 4th list. I am planning to go to Borders with the boys tomorrow so they can pick something there.

DS turned in his passport this afternoon. The free books to choose from were on display and the kids were able to choose whichever book they wanted. We turned in the book and the passport at the checkout counter - no questions asked.
