I let a friend of mine ( known her since she was 11 now she's 29) keep her young hourse at our barn.
My husband was not thrilled when I said she could board her horse here for free. He said to me. I really dont want to but its ok with me If I never have to take care of it. We have 2 of our own horses, 3 big dogs, 3 cats, 2 parrots and 4 kids, I work PT DH works full time plus OT.
New Years Eve I called her and wanted to know where she was. She said she had to work all day for her DH (she is a SAHM) and now they were going out. Said she did not have time today to care for her horse and spoke to my DH. I was very angry and told her to get her A## over here now and take care of your horse.
When she came over I told her that just because she had to work and now has plans for the night it was not fair to my DH who also had to work all day and also has plans for the night to expect him to care for your horse. This will never happend again !!
Today is her DD birthday, then a baby shower. I called her and asked what happened because she never showed up today to care for her horse. OH I FORGOT !! was what she said. I was so angry I told her she needed to move her horse to a new home.
I was very nice, Told her that the only thing we asked her to do was to clean the stall daily. THATS IT !! I told her that I have more then enough on my own plate to have to now worry if you are going to show up or not.
In the past we have told her that if the weather was bad or she was sick to call, we would take care of the horse. Today no call nothing. SHE FORGOT SHE OWNED A HORSE !!
Yes we are VERY PICKY about the care of our animals. We have never in 20 years forgotten we have them. They have never been 2nd to anything. Our animals were our choice to bring home not theirs. MY DH, Kids and I have always put them 1st. The stalls are cleaned daily NO MATTER WHAT She knew this. Has known me for 18 years and has known I NEVER NOT CLEAN STALLS.
So now im feeling guilty that I told her the horse has to move. I know I should not because I told her the last time, this will never happend again.
And tomorrow we have to go to a birthday party for her DD. Should we go ??
