I read on another thread that they used to have Free golf club and shoe rental at the Disney courises for DVC members. Does this still hold true?

No, not anymore, they did it for a year a couple of years ago.
I believe the current rate is $55 for clubs and $7-$8 for shoes.
If your only playing once it's probably worth it not to bring your clubs.
I usually play more than once so I bring my clubs, but I pack most of my clothes in my club bag so I don't need to bring another suitcase.

I golfed last month at the Magnolia course. It's $65 plus $10 for shoes.

DVC Members can purchase a Golf Membership for $50 +tax and then they receive special pricing from $35 to $89 depending on the season. The tee times are after 10am.
Also 9 holes is $20 all year long at Oak Trail but Is that the one that is closing?

The golf membership includes green fees and golf cart.

Golf Lessons are discounted 20%.

It used to include the clubs and shoes, but they changed it a few years back.

LIFERBABE, very impressed with your knowledge of Disney Golf. Eagles Pines is the golf course that is already closed.
Oak Trail is a 9 hole walking only course that I have never been to. There is specualtion that by 2010 Osprey Ridge may go the way of Eagle Pines, not really sure what the rumor mill says about Oak Trail.

We just played last week at LBV, Palm, and Mag. On our first morning we were being taken to the pro shop from our car on a cart and the driver said that DVC members got free range balls. That was a surprise to me but I was happy to hear it. Well, we got to the register and a particularly gruff female CM said that was WRONG and he should have known better. This was our second trip we used our DVC golf membership and it was well worth it. In two trips I have never played worth a darn at WDW playing my best the first day of each trip. But it is a ton of fun and I will continue to enjoy it as long as its available. Too bad they took away a course this year. By the way, LBV is in perfect shape after being closed for 4 months. It was once again my favorite even though its not supposed to be the best of the WDW courses. Second time playing the Mag and second time seeing a gator. Always close to hole 16 or 17 in my two trips.

This is not speculation. The property where Osprey Ridge and Eagle Pines are located has been sold or leased to the Four Seasons Corporation. The Four Seasons is developing a high end resort complex that will include a four star hotel, single family homes and fractional ownership homes. The Eagle Pines course was closed in August so the construction could be started. According to the press releases and other information, Osprey Ridge will be closed in 2010 for a redesign and when it reopens, it will be a Four Seasons branded course. At that point, I would assume it would not be available to Disney guests.

When we played in mid October we were told that they would be starting to move dirt on the Eagle Pines site for the Four Seasons project by the end of this year. We played the Osprey Ridge course and on the 18th, I hit my tee shot over the trees on the left that seperated the 18th on Ospery and Eagle. What I saw when I went over to get my ball was heartbreaking. The 18th fairway on Eagle was overgrown with weeds and the 18th green was totally burned out. Very, very sad.
