Tonight I decided to close my facebook account. I was concerned over how much I was using it and mostly over privacy concerns. It took me 2 hours to remove all traces of my account. I feel weird now knowing I cant click to see what people are up to. :rotfl2: Its amazing how much something can play such a bit role in your life and its totally pointless. I guess I will have to spend more time here to make up for it:rolleyes1

Anybody else facebook free or thought about closing their account?

I thought of closing mine too, but decided to keep it open and just not go on as much. I only have 71 friends on there, so I'm not overwhelmed with messages. These are the people I have a close connection with.

Just this morning I read that my sister had her baby girl party: and she didn't have to make tons of phone calls right away.

I logged off after reading that and I go on very little. Actually, I'm on the DIS more.

I've thought about it, but instead quit playing all games and no longer initiate any facebook chats. I spend 5-10 minutes a day on fb depending whether anyone has posted new photos. I've found that almost all comments, etc I make are on the posts of coworkers. How weird that I spend all day with these people and then comment on their fb status. I also don't have phone access to fb or the internet so that limits my time as well. I can definitely see how it could become a major time-sucking addiction! Congrats on quitting.

If it felt like facebook was "shackling" you I think you did the right thing to get rid of it! :thumbsup2

I only recently joined, because my dd joined. My only fb friends are my kids, relatives and a few people from college. We share pictures, etc. I don't even log on every day!

Now the dis is a different story....;)

I just use FB as a communication tool, so I don't feel shackled by it anymore than a telephone. Heck, it feels less shackling than a phone because I can "answer" it (or not) on my own time.

I am planning the same thing. I received a wonderful virus from it so I plan on leaving soon! Although, I know I will miss catching up with friends & their families but the privacy thing & viruses to me are just NOT worth it!

I quit about a year ago. I got sick of reading how happy and wonderful people's lives were, when in reality I knew these people were knee deep in poop. :rolleyes1

I do miss out on some coupons etc... oh well!

Agreed.

I would never get rid of Facebook. I enjoy it and I spend enough time each day doing things I don't enjoy to take away something that holds my interest and makes me happy.

Good for you!:thumbsup2 I have an account, but hardly use it anymore. I know so many people who are obsessed with FB.

Disclaimer so I don't start a flamewar with the obsessed word: I also know there are many people who aren't obsessed.

I had facebook for about a month. I realized that I did not want to be reading everything that everyone was doing. I just don't care. Plus it was a privacy issue for me as well. I didn't want people to be able to find me I guess. I don't miss it at all.

I check it periodically, mostly when someone contacts me via email. I find the things most people post inane so I don't check it regularly.

I like it because I've hooked up with old friends I haven't seen in eons and it's nice to see how they're doing. That's good enough for me.

I've never understood how people feel shackled to it but I agree that if you feel that way, you need to log-off.

It hasn't been pointless for me - I have created new friendships and deepened existing ones thanks to FB. I don't play any games but Bejeweled, don't click on any quizzes so I am protected from potential viruses, don't friend anyone I don't want to, hide anyone I don't care to see on a regular basis, limit nosy family members on what they can see on my info, and have all my security limits set pretty darn high.

And that's just for my personal life - it's been incredible for my job!

I think it comes down to how you use it.

well ive been done off facebook for almost 24 hours and I keep forgetting and go to check it. I am glad I got rid of it. Good to see some people feel the same way as me.
