How do you find out about the free dining plan?

It's too late this time around. If they offer it next year, you can find out about it by calling 407-WDW-DINE, I believe; or you can ask the CM you talk to when you reserve your room. They haven't announced it for next year yet, as far as I know. Keep watching the DISboards; you'll probably find out here b4 anywhere else!!!

Any discount that is offered for WDW will be reported here on the resorts "codes and discounts" sub-board.

I also check a few of the other Disney websites fairly often. Room only codes are often short notice, maybe 2 months out. Big package deals tend to be offered more like 4-6 months in advance of when they are good for. None of that is a set policy or anything, just wanted to give you an idea of when to look Also free dining has been offered twice, both times for hurricane season. In the early Spring there is often an offer, I think this year it was upgraded tickets.

Make the DIS your homepage and take a quick look every day. Works for me. Except for the 'quick' part.

For Free Dining, specifically, keep a close eye on the website in the Spring, when the hurricane season deals are typically announced.

nope, free dining is not available to DVC resorts on points. You can purchase it though.

Free dining is only available if you buy a package. DVC on points is NOT a package.

Last year, an ad for the plan was running in the Detroit Free Press. DH, who isn't a huge WDW fan, called up just out of curiousity to get pricing and booked on the spot.

This year, I have been on the Disboards more often again and saw it here. I called up again just out of curiousity and darned if I didn't book on the spot again.

It is normally announced in April or so.

We are purchasing the dining plan for exactly that reason. Dining is an important part of our trip, and we are looking forward to having it paid in full in advance and being able to order whatever we want. It's really not expensive for all that you get. As DVC owners, we had not been able to buy into a plan before April; I always felt that it was unfair. Those booking room reservations through Disney as well have the benefit of free dining at certain times. For DVCers, the dining plan (even with paying for it) is really a wonderful opportunity.
