Welcome everyone! Our first meal at Disney was at Boma at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Neither of us had eaten here before, and this was one of two restaurants that I chose as MUST DOs! Our reservation was for 4:30pm. We arrived about 30 min ahead of time, checked-in without a problem and went upstairs to the bar so Jamey could get a beer. The CMs allowed me to go in before it opened so that I could take pics of the empty restaurant::

At 4:30, there was a small opening ceremony with a family and then we were seated soon after. We had a good table towards the back of the restaurant near the window that overlooks the pool. Our waiter, Doug, wasn't very friendly at first, but he soon warmed up. And now... the food! On our first trip to the buffet we each got a bit of everything.

Here's my first plate::
232323232%7Ffp43349%3Enu%3D3259%3E288%3E6%3B2%3EWSNRCG%3D327835%3C835327nu0mrj

Chicken Curry Soup

From top clockwise: 3 kinds of hummus with pita bread, falafel, rice, pork loin, mealie bread, prime rib, durban-spiced chicken, some type of sweet potato thing and something that I can't remember what it is. :goodvibes

I :love:LOVED:love: everything that I got except for the rice. It was good, but a bit too different for me. The soup had a sweetness to it, but it was absolutely delightful. The best thing was the pork loin... fork tender, melt in your mouth meat!

This is Jamey's first plate::
232323232%7Ffp43372%3Enu%3D3259%3E288%3E6%3B2%3EWSNRCG%3D327835%3C547327nu0mrj

Seafood Soup
232323232%7Ffp43367%3Enu%3D3259%3E288%3E6%3B2%3EWSNRCG%3D327835%3C838327nu0mrj

Jamey got the same food that I did, with the exception of the salmon (center of plate) and potato wedges (top left)

I was worried he wouldn't like the food here, but he ended up loving it too! He did not care for the soup, though, which was too sweet for him. However, he agreed that the pork loin was the best! :worship:

After finishing up the first round of food, we headed back to the buffet. At this time, more people started showing up so it took a little longer to get through the lines.

My second plate::
232323232%7Ffp43368%3Enu%3D3259%3E288%3E6%3B2%3EWSNRCG%3D327835%3C83%3A327nu0mrj

From top clockwise: mealie bread, some traditional African dish I can't remember the name of (lol), sweet potatoes, carrot soup, salad with mango vinaigrette and pork loin.

The only thing I did not care for was the mango vinaigrette. It was very weird tasting and I didn't eat more than a bite or two.

Jamey's second plate::

Jamey also got a repeat of his favorites but with the addition of hummus. Again, everything was delicious!

With our second plates down the hatch, it was time for.... DESSERT! I have heard so much about zebra domes I couldn't wait to try them! Jamey and I both have sweet tooths, so we made one plate to share with every type of dessert minus the cookies.

We enjoyed everything except for the lava-thing (chocolate-cake looking thing to the left) which was dry. Our favorites were the zebra domes and the pineapple upside down cheesecake! So good!!!

As we were munching on our desserts, Doug brought out a birthday surprise for me!
232323232%7Ffp43348%3Enu%3D3259%3E288%3E6%3B2%3EWSNRCG%3D327835%3C552327nu0mrj

The cupcake was good and had a whipped cream-type icing and was sprinkled with M&Ms, Mickey head sprinkles and gummi bears. The best part was the Boma stencil!

All in all, we both adore Boma and have deemed it the best meal of the trip! And we have agreed that it is a must do on our next trip!

Later that night back at the hotel, we stopped by Silver Screen Spirits where Jamey got a beer and I got a Pina Colava. I didn't like it. It had a much too strong alcohol taste to it for me, and the raspberry syrup was too sweet. I tried mixing it all together, but it didn't help. The pineapple slice was dry and tasted old. I drank about 3/4 and then gave up. :sick:

End of Day One! :goodvibes

Great start. I was a little hesitant about trying Boma (we'll be there this Friday), but you made it look and sound so good! Can't wait for the rest.

Try it! Even if you don't like the spices and flavorings of the African-style dishes, they have an area where you can get mac n cheese and chicken and there's also a large salad bar! I hope you enjoy it!!! :goodvibes

Monday (the 17th) was our day to visit AK. We worked up quite an appetite running around the park, so we stopped by Flame Tree BBQ around 11am for lunch.

I snapped this one before it opened, so there wouldn't be any people in it! :)

I ordered the 1/2 slab of St. Louis Ribs which came with baked beans and coleslaw:

Jamey ordered the Pork sandwich which came with a side of baked beans:

And for dessert we both ordered a slice of Key Lime Pie:

I ate here on my trip in 2005. I loved it then and I loved it now! I don't know what they do to the meat here, but the spices are just right. And the aroma coming from this place is mouth-watering. The ribs were really good... there were a few fat pockets, but for the most part I got meat. I got an extra side of BBQ sauce for dipping because I like lots of sauce. Jamey's pork sandwich was really good too and he finished it pretty quick. The baked beans are really thick and the coleslaw was good. The key lime pie was tart and delicious as well! But after finishing off my 1/2 slab of ribs, I couldn't force all of it down! :confused3

We ate our food behind Flame Tree BBQ. If you follow the path all the way down, you'll find a covered picnic area right beside the lake. It was so peaceful down there and only a few other families. Here's our view from the table:

Coming up next, the rest of our day in AK! Hope everyone enjoys it! :goodvibes
