Free Dining with APs

I've looked, and think I understand, but want to be sure I'm right.

There are 6 of us who will take a trip both this summer and next, timed so an AP can be used for both. However, cost-wise it's a wash for only the summer trips.

But there are 3 of us who want to add a mid-year trip, with free dining. Can we get a package with tickets and free dining, but use APs for the three of us instead, saving the three package tickets for use by the other 3 family members in Summer 2016? Or will they automatically link to specific people in my MDE account? What would I need to do to be sure three of us are listed on the package and the other three get the tickets?

A final wrinkle--one of the AP holders will be a (Disney) child. Can I just call her an adult (effectively purchasing three adult tickets) for the purposes of the mid-year trip? I will need (Disney) adult tickets for everyone else.

Does that make sense?

I'm not 100 percent certain, but I believe that if the other three are listed as your friends and family on MDE, you should be able to transfer the tickets from FD to them. I read on another thread yesterday that the OP had to call WDW to have their names taken off the tickets, so you may have to go that route. Since they would be unused tickets, it can be done one way or another.

Yes you can age the (Disney) child up to 10 to get the adult ticket and as a bonus you will get the adult DDP for the child so if you wanted to do more sit down meals, you can use those adult credits and then just pay oop for the child.

In order to get the free dining you typically have to buy at least a one day ticket. You can bridge that day onto your pass. In my experience doing the math, it's usually less expensive to use the pass holder discount and pay regular price for the dining plan. Our last 3 trips the savings has been as little as $100 and as much as $400.

And yes, you can upgrade the child with no problem.

So it seems like that is your bottom-line question.

Alas, while I think you can do this, I don't know it 100%.

I don't know the answer to that, but if you age her up she will always be aged up in their system.

When you do the free dining package, just make sure they don't link the tickets to your trip. You want them prioritized off you band, so you can use them later. Since they will not be used tickets, anyone can use them when you go to make them live.

As to the child being an adult, that won't be a problem. You just age her up and pay for the adult ticket. That does mean she will have the adult dining plan as well.
