Free dining---What's it all about?

I've been coming to WDW for a while now and, for the last few trips, have used the DDP. On my upcoming trip I will be using the Deluxe DDP.

However, I have frequently heard of the "free DDP." I understand that there is a period when Disney offers this treat. My questions are:

1. When is it offered and how does one find out about it?

2. Who is eligible for the free DDP?

3. How does one apply to be included?

4. Do you have to subscribe to the DDP in order to be chosen for the free plan?

5. What are the limits? (In other words, are the limits the same as those of the dining plan?)

Thanks.

Free dining has been offered since 2005 for end of August-Septemberish (hurricane season-low attendance). There is usually an offer to the general public around the beginning of April, but there is no guarantee they will offer it to the public. In previous years you could book a future trip while a guest onsite to receive free dining. You simply have to keep watching and waiting for the offer to come up. If you are already booked for that time frame, you can upgrade to the free dining once it's offered. I'm sorry I don't have the exact dates for this year's promotion. I booked while onsite and I think the last day you could book for was September 28th. As long as you book by the last day, the free dining carries over for your whole trip. (up to 10 days I think) If you have a Disney Visa, you will be able to book the offer a few days before the general public, if offered. I hope this helps!!! Feel free to ask any more questions, we've done the free dining every year since it started.:goofy:

the free ddp is not extended to folks staying on DVC points. It is only available to those purchasing a MYW package which includes rack rate for the hotell rooms and at least a 1 day park ticket for each person in the room.

The DDP is the regular DDP plan. People have reported upgrading and paying for the DxDP. I want to say $36 per person per night for adults.

If you stay DVC, you cannot get free dining :(
