"Free Dining" questions

Everyone keeps mentioning "free dining" but I am a bit clueless about it. I never knew free dining existed until I joined the DIS! If someone could answer these questions I would be most grateful!

Is the free dining a certain code or do you just tell the CM you want free dining when you call to book?

We are currently booked at CR September 14 and 15 but have not purchased our park passes yet (only our MNSSHP tix). Will I be able to take advantage of the free dining or do I have to book room, tixs and dining all at once?

What is the minimum length of stay required to take advantage of free dining? (We are only staying two nights.)

Is there a minimum number of "park days" one must purchase? (We are only going to purchase one-day passes because we are going to MNSSHP on the day we arrive, with plans to go to AK the following day.)

Are there certains resorts/certain room types you have to book in order to get free dining? (Currently booked in CR Tower MK view.)

Any and all information would be greatly appreciated! I would like to be armed with plenty of info before I call Disney. Thanks so much!

There was a promotion back in the Spring where you could get the dining plan for free during September (with a little of Aug. & Oct. I think). The promotion has since expired- you can't book free dining anymrore.

You would have had to stay at least 3 nights with tickets purchased as well.

Free dining was a promotion they had going if you booked a magic your way package with at least one day ticket for each person in the party then you got "free dining" I think you had to book by June 24th or so for travel dates the end of August thru Sept 22nd.

Looks like your dates are within that time but you had to have it booked by June 24th or 26th. I know some people were able to use the new code that came out after the free dining promotion and ended up with just as good a discount as free dining i don't know if that code is still available but if you are getting passes you could call and see what the price would be with dining and passes with the code.
