Free Dining question!

im new at this does this free dining thing mean you can eat for free? if someone couold clarify the rules for me it would be greatly appreciated. im going with a group or 20 so and discount would really help

When Disney offers the free dining promo, you get the basic dining plan free. This does not include gratuities anymore though. However, they usually only offer it during Aug/Sept. time frame. Not sure when you're going, but there are no guarantees they will offer it at all this year.

Plus you must booked this offer as a package which will require rack rate prices for you room and everyone must purchase the same park ticket. THis is a good deal, but the dates seem to be shrinking each year. In 2006 the dates were mid-Aug to late September, in 2007 the dates were late August to the first 3 weeks of September (so only about 4 week window). It's been offered for the last 3 years, and like everything, no one knows if it will be offered again. However, some folks who were there this past September 2007, were allowed to book it for September 2008 (referred to as the free dining bounce back promotion). The free dining offer has also been offered to our UK friends for August and September stays at moderate and delux resorts (value resorts were excluded). The UK offer is similar, but does have a few different requirements, i.e., length of stay tickets, resorts, options.

Do they allow guests to upgrade to the deluxe dining (for less money than the normal deluxe dining rate)? I didn't think to ask at the time, but it would have been nice.

We booked the Free Dining Bounce Back when we were at WDW this last September. Reservations said we could upgrade to the Deluxe Dining Plan for something like $32-35 per person per night, which is a good deal - but it would still add about $800 onto our family vacation. Needless to say, we like FREE dining and declined the upgrade.
