I heard that the new dining plan is not offering appertizers anymore only dessert. The thing is my husband does not eat dessert. Does anyone know if they will let you get an appertizer instead of dessert?

Thanks for your input :)

On the basic dining plan, you will not be permitted to exchange your dessert for an appetizer. This is not allowed under any circumstances, even for medical conditions. If you are on the basic plan and you want an appetizer, you must purchase one.

Please note that the tip is no longer included, either.

It stinks but no, you can't substitute an appetizer for the dessert. Everyone in my family would prefer salads and no dessert. I'm really hoping they change it for 2009.

Well this is a bummer! Thank you for your input. At least I know and can let the hubby know also. We are planning to go in Sept 09. Let's hope they change the plan a lil before we go.

I'm with your hubby on not wanting dessert. I'm not a big sweet eater (only Mickey Ice Cream bars!). So I'm giving my dessert to DS who isn't on the dining plan because he's under 3.

Would it be possible to get a dessert that you can carry back with you for a snack for you or one of the kids later?

That is a good idea, i never thought about taking the dessert to go. I would just have to pick something out that wouldn't spoil in the heat for the trip back to the hotel ;)

I know some places have something like brownies...That would be too bad depending on how long you are out and about. You're right though, just find something that won't spoil. You might even want to check out the menus and see what places have.

You know, I am a HUGE sweet eater. But I would think with all the talk of eating healthier and such it would be an option to trade for an appetizer instead. Maybe something like you can get EITHER 1 appetizer OR 1 dessert and not both on the basic dining plan. Sometimes I'd prefer a big salad or bowl of soup over dessert too.

By the way, my hubby isn't huge on sweets either. Hm, I'll have to tke this into thought as I read menu's to plan our ADR's.

I am not a big dessert person and last year I did take many of the desserts back to the room. At the restaruants I did ask if I could just have fresh fruit and many did have some and I took it back for the morning. Just a thought. I actually do the same on cruises - always just fresh fruit whether on the menu or not. It's worth trying.

You can also get a sugar free dessert ,fruit and sometimes a cheese plate as a dessert at TS.Maybe they will chg the plan for 2009, but as of right now they don't care whether you are diabetic ,had gastric bypass, or hate dessert. They will not allow a substitution.I am taking my desserts to go or getting fruit or something.

It's funny, we are dessert eaters and even we got tired of having dessert at every meal! We took a lot of things back to the room. My DH likes something sweet for breakfast so it worked out well. I carried baggies my back pack. Most items are packaged but I didn't want to take the risk of leaks!

I would much rather have an app than dessert. We just aren't big dessert people. Bummer on the change.

we're planning to just buy an appetizer if we want one OOP (on DDP) - DH loves crabcakes that much!

It's been determined that WDW eliminated a course in part to speed up the turnaround time on tables at TS restaurants - more diners in faster, more diners out faster. If they allowed a choice between appetizers or desserts, WDW would lose that advantage because some members of a party would order appetizers, some would order desserts, they'd probably all share, and there goes the quicker turnaround time.

You can add to your time at the table by ordering an appetizer off-plan, but then WDW gets some extra money for it.

That's not likely. The whole point of eliminating the appetizer was to turn tables over faster. If they gave a choice of appetizer or dessert then you would have a couple coming in, the husband would order an appetizer, they'd share it, then both would order their entrees, then the wife would order dessert, and they'd share that. It would defeat the purpose of eliminating it in the first place. Plus most appetizers are more expensive than desserts. Then you also have the fact that alot of people will purchase the DxDDP just to get their appetizers. Sales of the DxDDP would go down if people were allowed a choice of appetizer or dessert.
