Free Dining promotion...something isn't adding up

Hey guys and gals.

Take a look at these two pictures. I just went to look at pricing for an October trip during the Free Dining Plan promotion and noticed something strange. With the "free" dining plan, it is $2613. Without the promotion, it is only $2078. I understand that the promotion requires the purchase of Park Hoppers, but that should only add about $272 to the total price of the standard, non dining promotion package (2078+272=@$2350) That's still well short of $2613.

Any ideas?

Interesting. I put in the same search criteria and got the same package price for ASMusic, but got $3327.38 for ASSports. You may want to call and actually speak with someone.

I'm guessing you didn't go any further on checking what was included? I was playing around with something on the site the other day and noticed that Disney was quoting the free dining package at values to initially include the upgrade cost to the regular DDP. Downgrade to the included QSDP when it gives you the option later on and the price should make more sense.

Anyone else want to clean the OPs screen!? ;) (I kid, I kid. My tablet regularly looks worse thsn this. Darn kids.)

I had originally booked ASSp for.those exact dates and people, and if was under $2,000 if I recall. Something is definitely up!

Just ran a quote, and Disney is definitely including the upgrade to regular dining plan in those prices. That accounts for the price difference. Not sure why they're assuming everyone at a value resort wants to upgrade. But just go through booking to where you choose ticket options, click the "Select Dining Plan" button, and pick what you want.

The package prices may be misleading (They weren't quoting it like that last month when I first was looking!), but they are correct once you verify you're comparing apples to apples.

There may be a room or package discount without free dining. Keep in mind that you must pay rack rate to qualify for "free" dining. That's one of the reasons I always put quotes around "free." It's paid for in there somewhere.

You hit the nail on the head, Poohs.

I did actually click on "Details" and it said specifically Quick Service Dining Plan. But like you said, once I clicked through the booking process, I got to the different dining plan options and it did in fact have the Standard selected instead of Quick Service.

That's interesting. Even with us upgrading to the DxDP for our upcoming trip in Nov., we are saving about $900 for our family of three (that is even with having to add the park hopper - would have been about a $1200 savings of we wouldn't have had to add that.)

We had a package booked with Deluxe Dining several months before the promo came out and then just called and had the promo applied to our existing reservation. Even with upgrading the dining plan, I would think you'd still save money. Something seems off...
