Free Dining or YES Discount?

We are planning a trip January 25- Feb 1, 2014. I know FD is not guaranteed by any means, but I am trying to plan out the best options for us.

It will be 2 adults, and DS will be an "adult" (age 10), and DD will be 5. We are planning to stay at POR.

Here's my question; I would like to book a package, but can I just book room and a 1 day ticket for all of us for now when rates are released next week? We are still unsure if we will go with the dining plan. If free dining is offered, we could always add it on to our existing reservation, right?

My other question is this; how many days per ticket are required to do the free dining? Is it just a 1 day? The reason I'm asking is this: DS is interested in doing the YES program, and we could possibly do the discounted tickets through that to make up the remainder of our days.

The more I think about it, the more confused I get! :confused3

Thanks!!

They didn't offer free dining during that time this year, so I'm not sure if they will offer it in 2014. But if you book the free dining package this September, everyone on the reservation has to buy two days of park tickets, minimum.

Last year the discounts for January and February 2013 were released around Oct 9, 2012. You could go ahead a reserve a room anytime and then add tickets and dining later. You can also apply any discounts that come out later to your existing reservation. that is what we did. :)

We usually go over that time frame every year.
We've had free dining in the previous 3-4 years as well. Except Jan 2013... it was a Play/Stay/Dine package (Promo Dates Jan2-March 7th) where you essentially recieved the Adult dining package for the Children's package price.

*Full rack rate package with a minimum of a 2 day park ticket.

depending on the price of yes tix, you might be better off with a room discount and YES tix- you have to sort of price things out....room+food+tickets= xxxx
or room+FD+ regular tickets= xxxxx
allears.net has food prices so you can average cost of what you might buy for food
