Staying at the Poly standard room but wondering if free dining works out to be more savings or room discounts. Last year we went around same time Last week of Nov and there were room discounts and free dining but we opted for room discounts since it was a last min trip and there were no good dining reservations available. What would you use if given option for both. We are 3 adults and 2 kids and toddler under 3.

We are also staying poly standard, 12-14 days ( still deciding). I have figured it out a million times, and FD always is better than 30% for us. Even having to buy 2 day tix for all 5 of us when we have AP. But I guess it deprnd on how much you eat. We have basically 4 adults and a child (according to Disney). So it looks like you are pretty close to our situation.

I agree that it depends on how much you like to eat! We love to sit down to eat and I have three growing boys ;) so FD is always the better deal for us!

I did take advantage of room discounts to stay a few extra days, but we will be eating breakfast in the room and NOT eating as well as we would with free dining! :)

I depends on how many people are in your party and their ages and where you are staying. For us FD is the better discount compared to a room only discount.

DS just turned 10 last month so he is now on the adult menu. That's $1300 for three of us in dining alone.

For 5 of us (all Disney "adults" for the dining plan), we would need to get more than 50% off of rack rate at the Poly in order to get a better deal than free dining. Needless to say, we are using free dining this trip!:thumbsup2

So are you just figuring out how much per day the DP is per person or do you actually take into consideration menu prices. We have reservations at Le Cellier, Kona, Chef Mickey's, Mama Melrose, Plaza(which we likely won't use plan on since LC is 2 credits) and looking for a few more.

Since we do a lot of character meals (e.g., Chef Mickey's dinner, about $42 per person; Akershus, 1900 Park Fare, Crystal Palace about $38 per person) we actually do better for food on the DDP than if we paid OOP. For that reason, we figure out the cost per day based on the value of the DDP.:)
