Free Dining Oct-Dec Is Here!!

I will say this. In speaking with the CM this morning, I was explaining all sorts of stuff to her. She was really nice. Was hoping for maybe one of those magical PINS I have seen people talk about. But alas no. You learn so much about the system on these boards. It is CRAZY!

Am I right in thinking that despite having these leaked dates, until the deal is actually released we have no idea how many rooms will be available?

I keep seeing people talking about canceling or changing bookings. Why do this now? I keep reading posts about POR and worries that it won't have the free dining. Do we know this for certain? (I'm staying there, so a pertinent question.)

You are correct. It is always subject to availability, and doesn't matter if you already have a room booked or not...you'll still be at the back of the line waiting just like everyone else.

These leaks don't really serve a purpose other than easing some stress, and in some cases doesn't even do that. Knowing in advance doesn't save you anymore money, get a room booked any faster, or get you to the front of the line anymore than someone who finds out on release day and calls to book.

One silver lining is that in the past, Disney has extended some dates by a date or two a few weeks after releasing a free dining offer. This generally comes as a total surprise as nobody is really out there looking for it...but a nice surprise none the less.

Thanks for your reply. We planned our trip for the time of year we wanted (weather, time off from work, etc.) and based on when we could get awards miles for airfare. I knew free dining was a possibility, based on history, but didn't make my booking expecting it to happen.

Now I'm hoping that I'll get the promotion and be able to stay at the same resort and the same room type. I have a Disney Visa, too, so hopefully the few extra days to book will give me the edge. We shall see.

This may have already been asked - but its a lot to read through...I've got reservations already booked for Nov 11-15 at a value and purchasing the regular dining plan - however, with FD becoming available during my dates - I want to upgrade to Port Orleans - should I go ahead and have my TA cancel my current reservation and rebook me at Port Orleans and hope the FD comes through- or do I have to wait and have her do this the day it becomes available to the public?

If you change your reservation to PO right now before the FD promo comes out they will book you in a Non-FD room. So, technically you won't be saving a spot with FD at that resort. When FD comes out on Aug 1st and you call to say, "Hey! I have FD! Can you add that to my package?" The CM will still have to see if there is a FD-room available. And the CM would do the same thing if you didn't have a reservation at the hotel already. I hope that makes sense. Sorry, I ramble. :) I didn't know this until recently and I did the same thing that you are asking about. Hope this helps and the best of luck on your vacation! Just be sure to call bright and early at 7am.

I think some of the worry comes from 2 of us who had POFQ booked for the first week of December. When we were able to apply FD to those reservations, we had to change locations as there were no rooms that qualified during that time frame at POFQ.

Hopefully, there will be plenty of rooms at the locations everyone is hoping for. I'll keep my fingers crossed for all.

I am using a AAA TA for our upcoming trip. I might be totally off base or like I said, brain fried, but when I saw this info posted on Monday I emailed my TA.

She got back to me but told me: "Unfortunately the resort is sold out of all rooms. I cannot add promotions to a sold out resort." (We are staying at the Contemporary)

Can someone help me understand what she means - I've asked her to clarify and because I'm at work I can't call her and her work hours are exactly like mine so right at 5 pm she's gone.

The way I understood this latest promotion and from what I've read here is that we'd need 2 separate reservations - one for September 28 and pay for food OOP and then another ressie for September 29-October 5 and only be able to utilize FD until October 2. But free is free and since we already have our reservation why can't she call on August 1 and add the FD? Can I call or because I went through AAA it would cancel out whatever discount I received by using them? :confused3

Hi!! Let us try to tackle this one step at a time. I think there was some confusion as this latest offer has not gone live yet, and unless your TA follows the rumor mill, like we do, she probably knows nothing of this, yet! Not always, but it seems most AAA agents find out the day before or day of, so it would be good to call her the day before, or if you do not have a Disney Visa, and that offer goes live first, simply ask her to check out that website and tell her the public offer is supposed to go live Aug.1.:thumbsup2

Now for the second part, you are correct in that you will have to do a room only for the 28th, but for the 29-Oct 5 your TA can book a MYW package and you CAN get free dining for the rest of your stay. Now, highly suggest giving your agent a back up resort category and back up resort choice because there is no way to know the availability at each resort. But she is correct, you can not have the AAA discount and the free dining offer; you have to pick one. Good luck and have an awesome vacation!pixiedust:

My brain is a little fried from the heat too, so I hope this all makes : )

Your TA may be correct if she were trying to add a current promo, but is incorrect regarding this rumored FD promo. There aren't any sold out resorts for this upcoming, rumored FD promo because the promo hasn't started yet. Does that make sense? When the new FD promo starts, there will most likely be a new allotment of rooms set aside for it.
As for your reservation, you are partially correct. Yes, you will need to have a split reservation. You will need a room-only reservation for 9/28. Then you will need a MYW package from 9/29-10/5 to receive FD. As long as you check in on a FD date, you will receive FD for the length of your stay, up to 14 days. :wizard:

If she's staying at CR isn't it better to get RO discount..I guess it depends how many adults and kiddos are in the room right? I have 2 adults 1 kiddo so RO (at deluxe) is usually a better discount.

hi!! everything you said totally makes sense to me - I think my TA is the one who just doesn't "get it".

But if I'm getting a better discount by using AAA than I would with the free dining then I'll just keep everything the way it is - we've been paying off our Disney trip for a while now and our last payment is July 31 then it's done yippee!

I think my big issue this time around is in 2011 we stayed at POFQ and was able to go through AAA and get the FDP. Is it safe for me to assume that because we're staying at a deluxe resort that is where my confusion lies? If we stayed somewhere less expensive we'd get FD for those days in late September/early October?

thank you for helping me :)

A. With three boys free dining is a must.

Well we booked hoping for FD sure but also because we are a family of 5 of options are so limited with resorts. Also, that was the best week for our family school wise. Now we have to reconsider because we have three boys. They eat a lot.

We have 3 boys also so would love to get free dining but this is my first time planning a trip and I am kinda dug in like a tick at this point. I have my ADR's with 2 chef mickey's 1 BOG 1 tusker house 1 garden grill 2 crystal palace, also have airline, time off work, Mother who is joining us and has scheduled care for my father with dementia, sister who has airfare and time off work. It would be overwhelming to change it all. Next time I won't be so quick to plan but ahhh its so fun :yay:

I just need 1 more post to hit 10 and then maybe it will stop limiting me from doing things like quoting people with website links and etc so here it is. #10:cool1::badpc::dance3::yay::worship:

For me, the leak does ease the stress and helps me know when it's going to go live and when to plan on calling. Otherwise, I might be a few hours or even a day behind and miss out on my resort/room category. So I love the leaks ;)

I'm no Disney expert but I think I can answer some of the questions for you. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. :)
If your check in date is Oct 2 then you are included in the FD and it will cover your stay. They go by your check in date and your whole stay afterwords doesn't have to fall in solely in between the dates.
When you get the FD and go to make your reservation, your existing one doesn't factor in as far as availability. The room you have booked right now is a non-FD room. They will check to see if there are any FD rooms at CR available.
Can you call your agent? Maybe email her about calling for you before the 1st. That way she is sure to have read your email before the day to call. She can be ready with your wishes. Best of luck to you! :)

Thank you so much for replying. I will email our TA now and see what she says.

Ha who knew Disney could be so complicated. I feel like I'm a fish out of pond and a bit overwhelmed with what I should be doing before I even leave Aus. But.... I cannot wait..... So excited.

Yep, that totally makes sense and it does depend on the size of family and the ages. In my case, free dining always wins out! Disney allows up to 5, 3 years and up plus 1 infant in a room, so it all depends, and hopefully her TA will help her come up with best deal.:thumbsup2

Hi! and :welcome::welcome::welcome::welcome:

Yes, arriving on the 2nd of October does qualify you for the free dining offer. Yea!!! However, already having a reservation does not automatically mean it will be applied. There are only so many rooms allocated at each resort for the offer, so your TA will need to call and have it applied. You will know on the 29th of July if the offer is live and I would call my TA to give them a heads up before the 1st of Aug. And just in case, I always give my TA a list of second and third choice of room category and resorts. It is not so much that free dining rooms will run out, folks biggest concern and reason they call first thing, is because they have their heart set on a certain resort and/or room category. Good luck and don't by shy asking questions. We love to talk Disney!!!!pixiedust:

Thank you so much. Feel very much a novice here, with loads to learn but I am so excited to be coming to Disney for the first time, and bringing my kids.

How many of you booked the first week of December expecting free dining ( like I did ) and are now:

A: Planning on changing to a free dining date when officially released.

B: Have already changed to a rumored date.

C: Just keep the first week in December and dine out of pocket.

D: Just keep the first week of December with dining and hope for a RO deal.

E: Cancel the trip altogether.

F: Other

I didn't mean for this to be so long but the options just kept coming to mind.

I am leaning toward D

I am with you. I am considering D.
