Free Dining was not offered for October at all this year. I have gotten UOC's for the Fall but they were RO and little or no availability. Kind of tough to get much of a discount from Disney "last minute" and October has become a very busy month. You might want to try Orbitz or Priceline; I think there is thread here about discounts through those 3rd parties

There's a public offer now for October, but up to 20%. Free dining came and went.

Like scard said, Orbitz and Priceline (if you know how to search for them) may be your friends, but depends on what's available out there and type of Resort you look for. 1st week in October there's a huge IT conference which blocks many rooms at deluxe resorts. There's probably other conventions too.
