Free dining in January?

I think I know the answer to this one, but I can't remember last year (actually last week) well enough be sure. They didn't offer the Dining Plan for free last January did they? It was only September, right?

It was only september BUT they did have a good deal in january well before january for trips in january.

We had an 8 day trip to WDW this past January...the deal offered was free ticket upgrades for everyone in your group...we got the PARK HOPPERS for free & also the WATER PARKS FUN & MORE OPTION for free.

if i'm not mistaken ther was also a small discount on your room and you were allowed to add on dining - not free though, but normally if you have a discount you cant add dining.

About the dining plan...yes, that's true. We also added the Dining Plan (not free). I don't recall if we had a room discount or not.

the only reason i'm thinking that they offered one is because when i was researching/planning our late feb/early march trip i was posting that you cant get dining if you have a discounted room since discounted rooms are always room only discounts. and someone intent on arguing showed me up in that the january packages included it .... although maybe it was just the idea that they got two discounts - tickets and dining. I dont remember.

It was a ticket upgrade and about a 12% room discount and you were still eligible to do dining plan. For the previous years January trip we got hoppers free and free kids tickets plus a very small room discount. For the past 4 years it's always been some type of ticket upgrade and small room discount. We always go in January....

Yes--these are always package deals. I believe there have been room only discounts in January before as well but I think the last time was Jan of 2003 or 2004. Typically these discounts aren't out until late fall (end of Oct beginning of Nov) so we book through a travel agent and they just adjust for us when the discount comes out.

Just curious. How early in January were these "upgrades" available? Our trip is January 4-9. Thanks! I've never been in January. Has it been warm enough the last couple years to swim in the afternoon?

The pools on WDW property are all heated. You should be fine. My kids usually do.

We will be there the exact same dates this year.....

Usually it seems like the special rates started either Jan 1 or 2 so hopefully we'll be good to go.

It has definitely been warm enough to swim in Jan. Typically we get 1-2 cold days, 1 day with some rain, and 4-5 days of sunny and warm. There is only 1 water park open at a time in Jan and if it's very cold they don't open at all but the hotel pools have always been open and had people in them. My kids swim but I personally don't like being cold. The water is plenty warm though it's just when you get out.

We usually bring short sleeved shirts and long pants plus carry a sweat shirt for days and medium weight jacket for cold evenings. When it gets very cold we just wear the sweat shirt and jacket.

There was a room discount, I cannot remember how much, but it added up, and we were able to add the DDP.
