Free Dining Help!

I know Disney won't release 2010 Free Dining dates for some time, but can someone either post a link to a thread or give me the rundowns on Free Dining? We go to Disney all the time, but have honestly never taken advantage of the Disney dining plan or Free Dining. We actually just made our first ADR's on the last trip. I just got back from 8 days and have already begun planning our next trip. Considering how much we spent on food, we thought it might be wise to at least consider going during Free Dining. Thanks!

The general parameters are:

The general public "free dining" promotion is usually available for stays in mid to late August through September, possibly into the first few days of October. (This is the height of hurricane season)

The promotion concerns purchase of a Magic Your Way package reservation including a full-price room (no room discounts can be combined with the free dining promotion) and at least a one-day theme park ticket for each member of the party age 3 or over, for at least a 3-night stay. You can ONLY get the free dining if you purchase a full price MYW package with tickets. DVC members staying on points are not eligible and free dining cannot be applied to an annual passholder room/dining package reservation.

The basic dining plan (1 TS, 1 CS and 1 snack per person per night of your stay) is then added to the package at no extra cost. You can upgrade to the deluxe dining plan for an extra cost in 2009 of $32 per night per adult and $10 per night per child. The package cannot be downgraded to the quick service dining plan.

Thanks NALA for the info. That actually helped me understand it a little better. I'm having alot of difficulty navigating Disney's site for some specific pricing. I know they do not have 2010 dates posted or prices up there, but I wanted to see what it would cost for each family interested in going based on this year's price. The old Disney site was much easier to navigate than this one. Is there another site or someone here who might be able to help me? I know alot of the Dis boards crew are travel agents. Thanks!

We have a sticky thread called "Everything You Always Wanted To Know" at the top of the dining plan board that contains all 2009 pricing info for all three dining plans.

For free dining, you won't be paying for the basic dining plan - just for the room and tickets. www.mousesavers.com has charts with the room rack rates for 2009 - and rack rate is what you will be paying for the room. (The prices are likely to be higher in 2010)
