Free Dining Extension ~ Oct-Dec

I can go online right now and book the room only special offer and still add on tickets and a dining plan. You end up with a package with a discounted room rate. :thumbsup2

And you are mistaken. We got a pin code for a room only discount and the only thing we could add was tickets, even when we called Disney(and the phone cm was not a typical one, she did everything possible to help us). Room only discounts are for room only bookings. Also, the dining plan is considered a discount even when you pay in full for it, and you cannot combine discounts. If you book a room, tickets, and dining it becomes a package and is no longer a room only.

Just as many have already mentioned... I too have booked using a room only discount. I then added the dp to it. What you can not do is add free dinning to a room discount.

When Disney announces promotions is it usually on a certain day of the week or can it happen any time?

It can happen anytime but looking back on promotions it's typically Tuesday or Thursday. ***i think*** maybe someone else has a better answer :)

For the last promotion (FD for Sep 2 - 25), the DV offer started on Monday, May 6 and the GP offer started on Thursday, May 9.

How I understand it is that you are able to book a package (room/tickets/dining) and then if a 'room only discount' comes out, that discount will only be applied to the room amount part of your package. That's correct, right?

Yes, that's the way it works. Ro discounts work better for some while fd, if staying at a value or mod for larger families works better.

2010 was the last time we used a room only discount. We did not use the dining plan, but the CM offered us the chance to buy it when we called to apply the RO discount.

That's what I thought! Was just getting a bit confused, so to speak, with the last few pages of this thread!

I've never used a room only discount, but that is how I always understood it to work. Since we stay at Values most of the time, we take full advantage of free dining, which works best for us!

I have booked a "room only" discount on both of my trips and added dining & tickets to both. Room only discounts give you a discount on the room but not the dining or tickets.

Just wanted to chime in here. I am a travel agent specializing in Disney. You absolutely CAN add on tickets and dining to a "room only" discount!! :goodvibes

And as far as extended Free Dining, I haven't heard anything yet.... Keeping my fingers crossed! :wizard:

I think it's the words that confuse some.
You start out with booking the room only discount, not a magic your way package. You can then attach park tickets and a dining plan to your room only discount - essentially making it into a product that is the same as a Magic Your Way package - but it's not called that!
I can see how it might be confusing, different discount, ends up being the same as a MYW package.

I agree. You just took the words right out of my mouth. It's an issue of semantics and Disney does not make things easy to understand or easy to find specific details (I think because they have many grey, unpublished, areas??). Also, the original poster may have had a very specific PIN or code that may have not allowed any additions, or they may have spoken to a less informed CM.:upsidedow

So no one is totally right or wrong; just different experiences. Now who wants to put the issue to rest and get on with Pixie Dusting for Free Dining???:woohoo:

Me, me .. pick me! LOL I already have FD for my Sep trip, but still wishing & hoping for FD for all! :tinker:pixiedust::mickeyjum

You're hired!!! Do you want to be in charge of Pixie Dusting?:tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker: Or Mickey Shakin'?:mickeyjum:mickeyjum:mickeyjum:mickeyjum:

I'm hired? Whew - that's a relief cause Joe fired me a couple days ago. (Something about sending a reply that didn't have any reply in it - it was a computer glitch - honest! LOL)

Well, considering Tinkerbell is my avatar, guess I should go for the pixie dusting! :tinker:pixiedust: :goodvibes

Are you saying that some of the CMs are less informed than others....:confused3

Baaaahaaaaaa!:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

When are they ever going to announce discounts.....We have been waiting and waiting FOREVER!!!:dance3::dance3::dance3::rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1

Yes and no. :worried:

Not to confuse the issue further ... and you may mean exactly what I am about to say....:)but...

You cannot "attach" park tickets and dining to a room only reservation. (Which I am guessing was the problem).

You need to cancel the room only reservation and rebook a MYW package.
They will refund any $$ you have on the room only reservation to you. (you cannot transfer money from a room only to a package ressie).
You will have to make a new reservation requiring a new $200 deposit (or payment in full on the package reservation if you are within 45 days).
You will still keep the discount on the room portion, but in order to have the Dining Plan it has to be a MYW package.

Sorry to be so specific about the details...I just didn't want anyone who is waiting and hoping for Free Dining to be released, think that they can apply it to a room only reservation. I learned that lesson a few years ago. :surfweb:

Lol...and yes, I do know that from a very personal experience!!!:rotfl2::lmao::rotfl2: But there are some very good ones, like Carlton!:yay:
