Free dining and crowds

Triple booking = greed!
Very lame on your part...:snooty:

Sorry but I don't consider this greed or lame. I consider this proper planning. IMO I can't stand the dining plan or free dining. I wish disney would go back to the days before the dining plan when you did not have to plan your days out 6 months in advance. We just don't enjoy being on such a tight day by schedule and unfortunately by booking numerous ADR's this is only way for us to enjoy the disney vacation that we are paying thousands of dollars for. And just like most of you we like to eat at some of the more popular restuarants. My child loves Chef Mickey's breakfest, but I am not going to decide six months in advance that I have to be at Chef Mickey's at 8:45 am on Tueasday morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

KAB1, we no doubt understand that triple booking makes YOUR life easier and we no doubt understand it's a pain to have to plan so far in advance and YOU want to be flexible and we all understand that YOU want to make YOUR trip wonderful and easy for YOU.
What I don't like and what I could never do is, in order to make my trip perfect, is to inconvenience and screw other people. It's hard to imagine how you don't seem to care or feel at all sorry for all the people that can't get a time because you are hogging so many. I am far from a push-over but I tend to always be considerate of others. I hurry at the bank and get out of the drive through versus sitting and organizing my money while the people behind me wait, I have my check or card out at grocery store so people don't have to wait on me, at the parades at Disney I crunch my arms to my side and try to not sprawl out to allow room for others. ....etc etc
It just is so weird to me how people only care about themselves and their comfort and their convenience. Very selfish and ME ME ME for sure. I mean, my teenage daughter is pretty ME ME ME but I'm sure I was at that age too. The thing is that MOST people grow up and grow out of that phase and learn to share.

KAB1, I think there are lots of people out there that are "really glad" to hear that your family is essentially simultaneously line jumping 3 restaurants at once. Bravo to your selfish ways. Who cares about anyone else having a magical time as long as your family "gets yours" that you've already clearly pointed out that you deserve....

Crowds and tons of people will by no means make it difficult on me.

First... I said nothing about making it difficult on you. I just said I didn't want to make it easier on you...big difference.

Second...Then why did you start this thread. That was your initial question.:rotfl2:

Well my soon to be 3 yr old is already pretty good at sharing...But then again, he didn't pay thousands of dollars to stay at THE Grand Floridian. :rotfl2:

This thread makes me think of the old saying..."Better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt"...although fool may not be the right word here. ;)

I didn't think it was possible to triple book let alone double book? I've been moving about my reservations today and when there is a clash I get a notice on my screen telling me and asking me to choose which one I want to keep.

Actually I agree with you on alot of this!!!! We do not do free dining and are not doing it in June either. I was fortunate when I booked my trip back in october to get 30% off my stay at the GF for the last week of June. This discount works out better for us. I cannot stand free dining either. I was really keeping my fingers crossed that it would not be offered for June. I like being able to walk into the GF cafe for lunch and have only a few tables filled. As far as me triple booking, I look at it like this. I booked my vacation 9 months out and at 180 days I booked my ADR's. I was going to Disney regardless if their were discounts or not. We have a four year old and sometimes our schedule needs to be flexible so that is the main reason I book so many ADR's. I am really not concerned about making it easier on people who have just decided to book because free dining was offered. If they can't get an ADR at this point for lets say, Le Cellier for the last week of June, then they should try calling every morning of their vacation. I have a lunch and dinner booked for every day of the trip but will probably only eat their once!!!!!!!

Well, we are going during free dining. I booked our reservations 1 year in advance when the FD was opened to the general public. I also booked ADRs at 180 days and was going to Disney regardless. I was online immediately when it opened for booking and had difficulty getting some reservations. Triple booking is just plain inconsiderate!

Very well said!!

I don't think it has to be an inconvenience to make life easy for others, it should be second nature (e.g. having cash ready at the grocery store, holding a door open a little longer so a mother with a baby can get through more easily). And IMHO it's not a huge inconvenience to have only one ADR per meal, yes you have to stick to a schedule, but if you want a relaxing and super flexible trip then perhaps WDW isn't the best choice? Surely it would feel good to know that cancelling some of those bookings means that two other families can enjoy them and have a more enjoyable trip? I am a firm believer in 'what goes around comes around'.

To the OP: I hope you and your family have an awesome vacation, but I also hope that you stop to think about how and why people have reacted to what you have said in this thread..

We have a four year old and sometimes our schedule needs to be flexible so that is the main reason I book so many ADR's.

Sorry, but I have to jump in on this. We went the last week in January, with free dining. I had a just-turning 3 year old and a 5 year old, along with my husband and myself. I'm sorry, but you don't need to be *that* flexible with a 4 year old that you have to have 3 ADRs to accommodate it. I had ONE ADR booked and our schedule was just fine. Maybe it's just because I'm a planner and I actually planned out our days in advance. I knew what parks we were going to, and what we planned to do, including exactly where we planned to eat. And again, our schedule was just fine. Now you say you cancel the extras in the morning, so does that mean you're planned out enough that you can decide that morning exactly what you're doing, but you can't possibly plan further out so you don't have to be greedy about your ADRs???

And this.....

I have a lunch and dinner booked for every day of the trip but will probably only eat their once!!!!!!!

....I just really can't get over how rude this is. I don't understand why you feel this is perfectly acceptable behavior. :confused3

Again!!!!!! I don't find in necessary nor do I enjoy planning a schedule out 6 months in advance. I decide in the morning what were going to do because every morning I ask my four year old what she would like to do and take it from there. If we go there for 10 days and only visit the MK and hang by the pool, I am OK with this because we go every year (And will continue going every year) and do not have to be on a schedule to see everything that disney has to offer. So for my family we enjoy Disney as a leisurely, relaxing vacation not a day by day regimented schedule.

And I don't understand why people are so concerned over how and what I choose to do to so my family will enjoy their vacation!!!! Get Over it!!!!!!

The fact is that you are taking away from another family who wants to experience the same thing you want to - that is enjoy the TS restaurants that they cannot normally afford, when they are able to snap a free dining package.

For anyone to book three reservations for each night, opt for just one, and then there is no space for another family that might want to have the same experience as well, is very selfish IMHO.

That family doesn't know your four year old has suddenly decided she is not in the mood for steak and wants to go to a character dinner at Chef Mickey's and they don't know that table is sitting empty in that particular restaurant waiting for them to enjoy the experience.

Quite frankly, I get the dining plan when I go by myself and always sit at the bar, rather than take up a table for two that a really nice couple would like to enjoy. I have my kind of experience and they still get to enjoy theirs.

Last year, I had a reservation for Yak 'n Yeti. I love the bar just as much, if not more than the regular restaurant. I had a reservation, which would have been at a two-top, and was about to be lead to my table, when a young couple walked up and found out there were no available tables. I gave my table to them and they were thrilled. I sat up at the bar; a few minutes later, the server came up and said the couple offered to buy me my first drink. It made my trip all that much more magical.

I will get off my soapbox now.

Again!!!!!! I don't find in necessary nor do I enjoy planning a schedule out 6 months in advance.

No one said it is necessary...but rather a courtesy. It's sad that you don't get that. And most people don't enjoy planning their vacation that much either, but again...it's a courtesy.

And I don't understand why people are so concerned over how and what I choose to do to so my family will enjoy their vacation!!!! Get Over it!!!!!!

Let's spell it out pretty simply...

WHAT YOU ARE DOING AFFECTS OTHERS ABILITY TO PLAN AND ENJOY THEIR VACATION

But my question to you is why don't you have at least 100 ADR's scheduled for each meal? I mean, if you really want to enjoy your vacation, your family (and only your family) should be able to just walk up to any restaurant and walk in and sit down. If you had an ADR for every restaurant for every 5 minute interval, then you could do just that.

This suggestion is so comical that I just shared it with my class!!!! As of right now all 30 of them are logged onto the Disney Website booking as many ADR's as they can get!!:lmao::lmao::lmao:

It's only comical to you because you missed the point. ;)

Reading through some of your other posts, I'm now no longer surprised in the least by your inability to understand why triple booking is rude.

Wow, what else does your 4 year old decide for you? What if you get there and he/she doesn't want to stay at the hotel you have booked? Or have to wait in line to see Mickey? Or wants to ride a ride they are too short to ride? I see a very large tantrum in the future.

I truly hope you have a magical trip, but I also believe in what goes around comes around.

BTW - what exactly do you teach? Hopefully not manners.

I can understand booking at first a couple of ADRs for one night or maybe the same one for a couple nights when you don't know what you are going to do. But as you get closer to your trip then you can weed out the ones that you won't use.

I did do that for the princess breakfast in Epcot. I didn't know exactly which day we were going to be there so I booked 2 for the 2 days I knew we might go. Today I know exactly which one we will be using so I have canceled the other one. Our trip is in June and at the time I don't think they had FD for those dates, today they do :)

I also booked both the CM and GF character meals for one night but again, I know now which one we are going to do and canceled the other one. I kinda like the idea Disney has with the Epcot Princess breakfast where you have to put down a CC and if you cancel within 24 hours you are charged a fee. Maybe they should start doing this for all ADRs to stop ppl from booking multiple ones for the same day and not changing them until that morning.

easy answer- his teaching is the specialty of being unfair to others.
