Free Dining 2014 Discussion ~ Part 2

We are currently booked at POP Sept. 6th - 13th. I usually wait to book FD each year online but I booked months ago because DH got a surprise bonus this year and although I could have put the amount we allotted for vacation in our savings account, I felt better about applying it to a reservation so that I knew that is what it would be used for...out of sight...out of mind (our savings in linked to checking). So, I'm contemplating cancelling tonight and then rebooking on Wednesday once the FD GP offer goes online. I know that having a package already booked doesn't guarantee FD at all and I'm kind of at a loss of what to do. I have a semi-flexible work schedule and can go in late and adjust my time at work in order to do my business with Disney on Wed. if need be so that isn't the issue. I am just wondering what would make more sense at this point?? My DH's mother and step-father are also booked at POP for the same dates and we requested adjoining rooms (I know they are not guaranteed) and we are linked on MDE so my plan was to modify both our reservations on Wed. morning once I got through. Not that she could not call and modify her own reservation herself, but that was our initial plan. I don't think she will want to cancel and then rebook, so I don't know. Any advice?

U could do 2 things: cancel tomorrow and rebook wed but itll take a week to get a refund or keep your ressie and call wed morning at 6:59 and switch to free dining. Personally if u can swing another $200 deposit i would cancel tomorrow and rebook. Seems easier

In a DIS search I found the upgrade charge from quick service to deluxe to be about $65 per adult, per night. That's about $975 for five nights for my DH, my 12 year old, and me. My 6 year old would be another $15 or so. That's pretty pricey. Has anyone else tended to upgrade their free dining plans?

We do. The past couple of years we have upgraded from the regular dining plan to the deluxe plan. Planning on doing it again this year.

Sounds about right. It is a LOT of sit-down meals so that makes sense to me.

So the best bet would be to cancel standard ressie at poly tonight or tomorrow and then rebook standard room poly at 6am on wed with FD.. They will give full refund?

Thank you!! Seems easier to me too; however DH doesn't want to do it :rolleyes1 In 2012 I booked ahead (way before FD dropped) and changed my reservation sometime (not 7am) on the day the GP was release so I guess that is what the plan is. DH just doesn't want to cancel and then put another $200 forward for a deposit just to wait for a refund and then reapply the refund (his words lol), so I guess I'm just waiting  Everything will work out...I have Disney faith!!!! Wishing everyone luck on Wed. that we all get what we want. The suspense is killing me....popcorn::

Keep your current reservation. There's no point to cancel it now. If you want to stay at poly, this is ur backup plan. Call the morning of FD and upgrade your reservation, or make a new one and cancel your current one.

This sounds idiotic but I'm still hoping and wishing that POFQ will be included in the FD GP offer on Wednesday. I switched to CSR and it looks lovely there, especially since I was able to book a room in business class, but it's just not POFQ. And POFQ is where my heart is. But I really want FD. So there ya go. :upsidedow

I really hope it gets included too! I love POFQ. I'm already booked there with a RO discount, but FD would be awesome!

I'm brand new to WDW, our first trip will be in November of this year. I'm going to call first thing Wednesday morning to see about getting the Free Dining added to our already-booked package. Just want to make sure I don't sound like a total moron when I call. :)

So, once I finally get to talk to a cast member, I just tell them that I want to add Free Dining? I don't need any special codes or other info or anything like that?

Thanks!!

Thanks! I was on the phone and spoke to a CM who told me there is no definite that new rooms will be opened fir GP.. I don't want to be anywhere but the poly.. If new standards don't open for the public I guess I'll be stuck waiting to see if they do a RO for my dates later on! It's not about the view for me and my DH, DS (4), DD (2), and DS (6 months), it's about location! With tiny kids I need that monorail! Lol

No codes needed--just ask. Look at page one of the this thread for hotels and dates, and be prepared with a back-up. The CMs, on the whole, on very kind and helpful.

Let's keep our fingers crossed. DH is not going to be happy if POFQ is included and I switch us back. He's been salivating over the thought of the filet at Maya Grill and free beer from the lounge, but I'm the planner so too bad, mister! :p

I won't mention the free beer from the lounge to my husband! lol Not that CSR had any rooms the week we are going anyway. POFQ reminds me of some of the resorts we have been to in Jamaica.

Can you have two reservations under the same Disney account for the same dates and people? I want to keep my original reservation and will make a 2nd reservation with FD on Wednesday. I am willing to let Disney hold on to my $200 on the extra reservation for awhile so I crunch the numbers.

Great question! I need that answer too!

I know this question has been asked a million times and so sorry for asking again but I can't find the answer! Can someone please tell me the cost to upgrade adults from regular dining to deluxe?
Thanks in advance :)

With the taxes it's about $48 per person per night.
