Free Dining 2008 Watch

I have seen this on many, many threads. Please know when I type this that I'm really trying to be helpful and not snarky or snotty.

Does everyone know that they can subscribe to a thread without posting a message? If you look at the very top of the thread, there is a tab that says "Thread Tools". If you click on that dropdown, there is a choice that says "Subscribe to This Thread". Choose this, it will ask you to confirm and "voila!" you're subscribed (and I don't get another e-mail in my InBox) :)

Please, pass the word to our fellow DISers

That or if you are gonna go thru the trouble of posting to say subscribing, why not just say hi.... lol or even :cheer2:

You will most likely NOT be able to combine your 40% code with free dining. You'd have to choose one or the other. WDW doesn't allow combining discounts.

Of course, you may be saying that free dining would save you more than the 40% code would, but that's not how I read your post. It's good for readers to know they can't combine, though.
I am pretty new to this but when you are booking with your TA is this a personal one or is this offered through WDW i am plannining a trip in September 08 and would love to see if i could get a better deal

Personally, I book thru Dreams Unlimited... they will try and find discounts for you. Last year, she got me the free dining and even after that, I got an email stating that there was a discount that would apply for me, but that the discount that I have with free dining was still the better one and no changes were made... but that makes me believe if something better had come about that I would have been able to get it.

However they won't know if your emailed a discount code ????

I am going Sept. 26th thru oct. 5, but staying using DVC points. Does anyone know if DVC stays ever get free dining??

Sorry, but no. At least not historically. What they might decide to do this year...only Madame Leota knows :)

As a side note, I see you're doing the EE Challenge - me too! There is a whole group of us doing it together and hanging out at the party afterwards.

Bummer ..oh well...

Question to the VISA card holders that said they get notified of special events/dining etc. Is it via email and did you have to sign up anywhere for email notifications for stuff like this. Only posting here as I saw a few people state they had gotten notifications from the visa card.

I got notice of the impending Visa offering (as well as the general public one a few days following) from some inside sources. Mousesavers.com is a good place to watch.

I think you misunderstood me.... Disney never emailed me a code... the email I got was from Dreams Unlimited... she wanted to let me know there was a discount I COULD qualify for but since the free dining I already had was a better money-saver there would be no need to change.

I don't think we have received an email notice yet. I will have to ask DH if it came to his email address. Disney Visa has his email address on file since he is in charge of paying the bill online. He is out of town for work right now. (:guilty: ), but he knows that I am on the watch for the offer. He didn't tell me on the phone that this email came.
I will say, though, that we knew last year from these boards faster than we knew from Disney Visa. As a matter of fact, I called Disney Visa the morning that the offer went into effect (to verify that I could use the code then). The lady I got on the phone had no idea what I was talking about. I called WDW after that. Thankfully WDW did know what I was talking about! :thumbsup2

I need to be more careful about how I phrase my replies. I was referring to my experience in previous years. I agree - one of the last places I heard about free dining was from Disney Visa. The Disney message boards and websites are much more informed.

hey I will be heading to WDW first three weeks of September my 180 day ADR window is open but I will not be booking that many meals if free dining is not offered would it be safe to wait until the start of April to see if Free Dining is offered to make my ADR's or would that be a bit late would most places be fully booked anyone any ideas? thanks

I would book now. You can always cancel if necessary.

These days, the frenzy starts at exactly 180 days. I have many friends going during that time and some are already having trouble booking their first choice location/times.

I am sorry I misunderstood you. For some reason I thought your post said it came by email. It was my mistake. :headache: My two DDs and I went shopping for spring clothes last night. We stayed until the mall closed so we were late getting to bed. Then the time changed overnight. I am not fully awake or alert this morning. So sorry for misunderstanding.

So w/ the so called "recession" what do people honestly think the odds are of free dining - I would just love to hear everyone's opinions or "gut" feelings. I would LOVE to spend Labor Day at WDW!!!

We have a full official thread to discuss free dining for 2008.

I'm going to merge your question into that thread for discussion. Many of our free dining fans are monitoring the thread waiting for the offer.

From the point of view of the recession, my thought would be that it could only increase the chances of WDW offering free dining. The promotion is offered for that time frame as a way to entice visitors in an otherwise slow time period.

So...recession=fewer people vacationing overall=increased odds of a promotion to entice more visitors.
