Does anyone use a free dial-up service? We have, change that *had*, free dial-up service with our high-speed service at home. We used this service while travelling. However, they are not going to provide the service any longer. (They are also not going to lower the rate, of course.) I did a google search, but I don't know which sites to trust. Thank you for any help you can provide.

NetZero has a 10hour per month for FREE (YES FREE, yup that's FREE, give me a F, R, E, and E... what does it spell? FREE!!!!!!) internet plan. I love freestuff! hehee.

It is perfect for seniors like my mom that just want to use the internet once a week, and for traveling people who have highspeed at home and NEVER use dialup.... until we travel and are banged 10 bucks a day for internet thru the hotel!

NetZero --- who hasn't heard of it?

:)

That really sounds great, but be sure to check the website for access numbers in your area. I need dial-up service for my vacation home in Northeast PA and there are no NetZero numbers in that area.

Can anyone more familiar with Netzero confirm whether they stopped the free access service alltogether?

I cannot seem to find anything on it anymore on their website...

I wouldn' t mind paying a small fee for access, but 10 bucks a day is too much for the little use we'll actually make of the access...

The link the PP posted was directly from the netzero website so I'm pretty sure they still offer it. Also if you go to www.netzero.com the main site and scroll to the bottom right hand corner it says free internet access click on that and that will bring it up.

Maybe I get redirected to a different page than you, but either link gets me to NetZero.net, and only the Platinum plan @ USD 9,95 per month is available... No free access links! :confused3

Okay it is www.netzero.net sorry about that. When you go to the homepage yes it says 9.95 per month BUT if you scroll down to the very bottom you'll see this
My NetZero | My Account | Give NetZero | Our Services | Advertisers | Privacy Statement | Terms of Service | Help | Free Internet Access. They probably hide it at the bottom to trick everyone!

I'll scour their pages again, but this is what *I* see on the homepage:
NetZero Home | My NetZero | Channels | Help | My Account | Corporate | Join Now
About Us | Our Services | Advertisers | Affiliates | Investors | Press | Privacy Statement | Your Privacy Rights | Terms of Service

:confused3

Apparently they only offer free Internet to MacOS, Windows and Linspire (ONE specific flavor of Linux) but not ANY OTHER linux distro... :sad2:

So I'll try again from my wife's laptop, which is the only Windows PC in the house... (Once I can get it from her...) ;)

Juno offers 10 hours free a month also. they are owned by net zero but you could have both accounts, 20 hours a month free. Wow! (you will need it, both are slow).

Can you guys explain to me how the FREE 10 hours works?? If we were to use it only when we travel to Disney, would we have to sign up with a number in our area, or sign up with a number in the Disney area??

I use my hours in Wisconsin and in florida. when I click on the icon, before I click on connect to internet, I change the settings for location to dial from, put in the area I want, get a list of numbers, and click on the ones in the area which are a free call.

At the POP we only paid for one day access for 14 days!

We set up our laptops, and hooked up my wife`s to mine, and I logged in to the service. I have a VPN client on my machine (Hamachi), so I fired that up too to access my home LAN.

As we hqve laptop cable locks, we left them on the table, and kept mine running all the time.

After some 36 hours we noticed we were still online, and after 14 days, only a single Internet charge showed up on the bill... :thumbsup2

YMMV of course, but it is worth a try!
