Free Cruise with a group?

I was just reading the newest Budget Travel Magazine and there is an article about if you book a cruise with 16 people, a minimum of 8 staterooms, 1 person will get a free cruise. They name the cruise lines that participate in it and DCL is one they mentioned. They stated you can do it on your own or through a TA. Is this true? If so, we all could book through one TA (Dreams) and then split the total cost of the cruise between the 8 staterooms.

Anyone ever hear of this?

It's pretty common in the cruise industry...the free cabin is called TC or Tour Conductor. Usually TA's split the cost of the free cabin among all the cabins booked to save everyone some money.

i just read the same article last night, and does it ever have me motivated to do something like this!

prymsu ..

Its a great way to cut your costs.... We will offer the "free" person (cruise only, no port or taxes incl.) to anyone who acts as the group organizer. It a good motivator!! Everybody benefits ..

Let me clarify this. This is free voyage fare, you still must pay your port charges and government taxes. It also has to be booked a certain way. DCL changed their group policies this year and it is not as simple as just having a group of 8 anymore unfortunately. I have to call back today to get more details......

We did this on our recent Carnival {01/02/03} cruise. We had 20 cruisers with 8 cabins booked. The lowest cruise fare was split between the 8 cabins.
