We have a few long carrides coming up and I am wondering if some books on CD would make the drive easier on the 2 littlest girls. Our library doesn't seem to have anything geared towards littler kids though (that I can find anyhow). Any suggestions on where else to look? We have an Ipod nano that we could download onto. Or any suggestions on series that would appeal to a 4 year old (maybe I can search the whole county library system if I had some ideas)? Thanks!

For preschool age books, most are picture books. You can find audio versions, but you really need to have the book to go along with the recording.

If you go up to early chapter books you can find titles that would be better for audio only.
Here is a list of some book series that might work.
Junie B Jones
Nate the Great
Henry and Mudge
Magic Tree House

I don't have any suggestions of where to get them for free if your library doesn't carry any, but you can purchase kids books on CD directly from Scholastic.

You might try looking at a local charity resale shop. Over the past few years Wendy's restaurant have given out books on CD as prizes in kids meals.

If you haven't had any luck finding books in the physical library, you would want to see if your library offers them online. Overdrive is the name of the program that handles checking out library audiobooks. If your library offers it you can download them to your iPod or burn them to CD.

I'd just do some googling like "your county here" library audiobooks and see what you can come up with.

If not there is always buying them though they do tend to be pricy. You might get lucky in the clearance section of bookstores - back when Prince Caspian came out I got a 17-disk set of radio dramas of all 7 Narnia books for about $20.

You live in PA. Most libraries participate in Access PA, which allows you to borrow from other libraries that also participate. Pittsburgh's library requires you to physically apply for a card but Philadelphia's permits you to apply online. Once you have an account, you can borrow any kind of digital media they have. That includes audiobooks and music.

It is possible to burn the audiobooks to a CD or rip it to an MP3 player once it is on your computer. Just remember to destroy the CD or erase the MP3 file when your borrowing period is done. It is against the Terms of Service to keep the audio file in any form after your time is up.

You can try Cracker Barrel restaurants. I think they still have their program where they essentially loan out books on CD. You have to "buy" the book initially, but when you return it to any Cracker Barrel, they give you your money back. (You're just buying it upfront so that if you don't return it, they aren't out the money.)

Did you talk to your librarian about your needs? Maybe they can help.

Scholastic has a lot for sale.
Unfortunately, everytime I try to post the link, the link itself stops working.
Do a Google search of Scholastic store, follow the link, click on Books then Audiobooks

They do have the disney faries books on cd. I would also look into getting a membership that allows overdrive. Some of the ones they enjoyed while yournger are magic tree house (wendys sometimes has these with kids meals), reddy freddy, germinamo stilton (sp). You can also purchase them through itunes or see if they have any free ones right now.

It does make car rides easier a mine cannot read with driving without getting sick. We listen to Harry Potter, and Percy Jackson on two trips to florida.

I recommend using Overdrive too, if your library offers it.

Little girls might like Princess Academy by Shannon Hale. She has written a few other books that would be good as well.
