Did you hear that Disney is giving a free AP to anyone born in 1997? Too bad the promotion is only being done in Hong Kong Disneyland:sad2:

no joke, they opened in 1997..same year my daughter was born and we are going this summer, but alas the promo ends 7/1, we arrive 7/4, bummer.

I think you're mistaken. They just opened in fall of 2005.

Here's the reason for 1997 from the official Hong Kong Disneyland website:

Complimentary Deluxe Annual Pass Offer
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Hong Kong Disneyland invites every child born in 1997 to enjoy a whole year of complimentary visits to the Park!

How it works
Every child born in 1997 can get a complimentary Deluxe Annual Pass between 15 May and 1 July 2007 to enjoy the magical delights of Hong Kong Disneyland.

In other words, it's been ten years since Great Britain turned Hong Kong over to China.

For more details and rules, see http://park.hongkongdisneyland.com/...ting?name=SpecialOffersHKSAR10AnniversaryPage

Thank you, you are correct the anniversary celebrates not the opening but the return of Hong Kong to local government...

Only wish our trip was a few days earlier to have DD enjoy getting an AP !

This reminded me when Barnum and Bailey Circus put out something similar (but certainly not as expensive) for all children born in 1993.
They gave them all free passes to see the circus any time it was in their area.
The certificate was so lovely we actually framed it and never used it!

There are sure to be some very lucky and very happy parents out there!

does that seem desperate to anyone else?

Define "desparate".

Do you mean more desparate than say..

- free dining for 7 weeks (including the UK & bounceback)

or

- 40% off rooms for 12 different weeks

Or do you mean more desparate than say Six Flags. :confused3

Desparate is a wide swath, it covers a lot of ground.
