Me Joh, 33 It doesnt get any better than this
DH Gary, 39 Oh no, more internet freaks
DD1 Sian, 13 Woohoo, Downtown Disney?
DD2 Rea, 12 One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish
Today was the day of the DIS meet at Raglan Road, Downtown Disney. We needed to be there at 6:30 in the evening but we also wanted to spend the day at Islands of Adventure. This called for precision planning. The shuttle was booked to take us to Universal/IOA at 8:30, then pick us up at 3 pm, back to the hotel where we could shower and change before the Downtown Disney shuttle picked us up at 4:30. We then planned to spend a couple of hours shopping at DTD before meeting the others for dinner.
I am glad to say that, for once, everything went according to plan and we had the most incredible day.
We got to IOA and entered the turnstiles just before 9. First stop was the Hulk. Rea had already decided there was NO WAY she was getting on it and, for once, we couldnt be bothered to try and persuade her. So, leaving Rea holding the bags, we headed up to the Hulk. Me, DH and DD1 rode it 3 times before deciding wed left Rea for long enough. From there we went to Spiderman and joined the short line. Unfortunately, when we got to the front, the ride had broken down. We waited for 15 minutes to see if it would start up again but it didnt so we decided to come back later. We then went through to Seuss Landing, where the girls and I rode One Fish, Two Fish a couple of times. Rea was finally happy as shed been looking forward to this for the entire fortnight. We then went on Cat in the Hat and then tried out the new High in the Sky trolley ride.
It was good fun and the views were great across the park but I don't think I'd go on it again unless there was no wait.
We walked through to The Lost Continent, where we rode Duelling Dragons the requisite number of times (front and back of each coaster).
Rea, bless her, had spent most of the day so far holding the bags and we did try to persuade her to come on some of the rides but most of them were too intense for her to even consider. I felt bad for her, especially as we planned to come back here the next day as well, but it was her decision not to ride.
Through to Jurassic Park, we went on the River Adventure (again Rea declined) and then on to Toon Lagoon where we went on Ripsaw Falls and got well and truly soaked.
It was almost lunchtime now so we got a couple of chicken strips meals to share and then headed back to Spiderman. On the way, we stopped to call home and spoke to Daniel, who was back from Butlins having had a great time. Unfortunately, the in-laws had not enjoyed it at all but at least Daniel had.
We managed to get on Spiderman this time and Rea was quite happy to try it, even though she wasnt convinced that it wasnt a rollercoaster. It was fantastic,a s usual, and Rea absolutely loved it. Sian, however, didnt like it and, when we opted to go on again, she decided not to come with us.
By this time, it was almost 2 oclock and, as we were coming back the next day, we decided to call it a day and strolled slowly back through City Walk, having another look in the Endangered Species store along the way, where the girls bought a box full of plastic creepy crawlies for Daniel (thanks girls I love finding them in my bed at night!) We had a nosey in Bubba Gumps as well. It looked great but none of us are into seafood so we probably wouldnt eat here.
Luckily our shuttle arrived on time and back at the hotel we showered and changed.
We got to Downtown Disney nice and early, arranged a meeting place with the girls and headed off in different directions. Gary and I bought some lovely kitchenware for Garys Mum and Charles and some gifts for people back home. Meanwhile, I think the girls spent most of their money on pins, charms and pens/pencils.
All too soon it was time to head off to Raglan Road and meet the others. We were pretty much the first people to arrive so ordered drinks from the bar while we waited for the others to get there. Soon, DISsers were arriving in droves and fairly soon, we were all seated in a little area to the side of the restaurant.
We all spent some time catching up and exchanging stories about our trips so far. I felt quite sad that we were nearing the end of our holiday while most of the others had just arrived.
I wont bore you with all the details (Mr Stringer has already done that) but suffice to say we had a lovely meal and an extremely enjoyable evening. The desserts were absolutely lovely.
I have an apology to make now. Im afraid I cant remember the name of the lovely lady we were sat with but she was very pleasant and her children were very well behaved. We had a lovely time chatting and they really made the evening fun for us.
The servers at Raglan Road were great and they managed to split the bill for all the individual parties with no problem at all which, considering we were all split up and spread out (the girls were sitting with the Stringer girls and not us) was no mean feat.
Everyone said their goodbyes and we joined Kev, Tam, India, Georgia, Matt, Deb, Jules and Ian for the beginning of another first for us the Adventurers Club.
I cant really remember much about it except that Tam was chosen to tickle some statue thing with a frond (?!?) and, for some reason, Matt kept getting picked on (whether it was his sparkling personality or his taste in shirts Im not sure). All in all, though, it was a great evening and we were sorry to say goodbye when we left at 11. The others stayed and, no doubt, continued the drinking and debauchery. We caught our shuttle and were back at the hotel at midnight.
