I sure hope that us freaps who really like what we are about stick around. I enjoy the chit chat and all the wonderful freebies you all find. This is just my own opinion. You know what I find amazing? My DD who is ten seems to get along better with her friends on issues then some of us as adults do. Oy vey A girl goes to work where she doesn't get internet access and the freap world goes to heck in a hand basket I know many of us "freaps" really do try to make an honest effort to keep the chit chat on the "posting" thread to a minimal and sometimes, oh how does that saying go.....stuff happens.... and we get a little sidetracked. Please people - all people - be tolerable. I know sometimes I am looking for a particular link and can't find it because I went through 2 pages of ELF talk and get aggravated but honestly thats the reason I like this board and thread so much as well. I have visited Freebie sites and it is very cold and clinical in the fact that it is just a posting board - here's the thread, goodbye. This is not one of those threads nor has it been one of those threads in the past. If someone is looking for that type of posting site then this is not the place to stop and roost and upset the whole henhouse. Both threads are places for FRIENDS to communicate the good deals, bargains, and freebies on. One place is more tolerable and acceptable for chatting but if things get sidetracked once in awhile, please be patient, we will get back on track. It is not worth causing an uproar one way or the other and I am sure the mods have far worse offenders to watch out for than this junk.

Beth....I do see your point and agree what will be will be but people remember we are all trying to have the same end result - getting good deals. Remember, sometimes it takes a bit of patience, much like waiting in a line at the actual store, but at least here we can have fun while doing it!

Oh, and Mr. DB - your family is beautiful!!! Sending some pixie dust your way that you find a new BETTER job soon!

First off- I forgot to tell DB your baby girl is ADORABLE! I Love the 2nd pic! That expression is priceless! I am sorry all of this petty CRAP got to me before I had a chance to tell you that and how sorry I am about your job.

People complaining about too much chatter takes a back seat to those kinds of problems!

2nd apologies to MY freap friends- and the Big Kahuna, Beth for blowing up. I still feel the same- and will still chit chat- but I would still like to apologize~

if you do not want chit chat let the few who complained go elsewhere

Maybe the freebie posters who want to chat should only post on this Freap thread?
Keep the Freebie thread for the hardcore no-nonsense gimme-my-freebies-and-be-quiet posters?
I'll try to do whatever I need to in order to keep everyone happy. However, I don't know that I can refrain from occasional comment on the Freebie thread. Sorry.

I have not yet seen a way that we can get the message to new posters that they can't ask questions, make comments about products, or post general information on the freebie thread.

We have had new people from other sections of DIS discover the freebie thread and post their delight at having found it. We have had new people from completely outside the DIS community discover the thread and join DIS just so they can participate in the freebies and friendship they have seen there.

I think the friendly attitude in the posts on that thread make it different that any other freebie board out there. Now, these new people, who haven't been around to learn the rules, are being told they can't be friendly on that thread after they have already posted they are happy to find the board/thread, they enjoyed the freebie, or they had something in common with other posters?

I even changed the name of the link in my siggy so people on the DISboards could find a freebie/budget chat area because new people don't know what FREAPS are.

And now one or two people who want to scan the boards from work as quickly as they can are complaining that they don't have time for the friendly "chatter" and it must stop?? There are other boards out there, that are not nearly as friendly or supportive as this one, that has the very same freebies that are posted here weekly. Seems that those boards would be the answer to someone who wants to quickly scan through freebies during their working hours when they don't want anyone else to see what they are up to or don't have time to visit.

Each week, the freebie thread has hundreds of posts and thousands of viewings. Is it reasonable to expect that either of these should be cut down for the few?

Well, between when you last saw me and today I've lost my job, had to cancel our WDW trip and now I'm just trying to find a new job so it's been a little rough lately...and enough with the depressing stuff...here's the little princess at Halloween..well..actually she was Squirt the Turtle but you get the point..

I am so sorry to hear about your job! My kids are teens and I always tell them 'it is rough being an adult' (I use different language ~ use your imagination). But, on the other hand, trials make us strong! Please keep us posted as to how things are going and I know we all hope something else comes along very quickly!

Those are the boards that I go to and "steal" their freebies, then bring them back here to the friendly freaps and share with a little chit and a little chat. (I guess I am a hypocrite, because I DO like how easy they are to go and get what I want and bring it back here..but that's not what WE are about.) I guess I will just go on the record as saying that I am not going to change a thing about what I do on the Freebie thread. That means I will continue to share whatever freebies I find, and I will continue to "mouth off" if I feel I need to.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember the primary reason for creating the Chat was to post when we received our freebies and tell how we liked/disliked them. And to move some of the unrelated chat..but I don't recall it ever being explictly stated that ALL chat would be moved to the Chat thread...


What irks me is that while we are over here now on the Chat thread discussing this, the folks who complained are probably over on the Freebie thread and will never see this because they don't like the chat..and we aren't supposed to take this discussion over there..Catch 22...

Thank you to whoever posted the Jan Brett's book deal. My daughter's school just received the book with a nice letter and the librarian just called to thank me and they are also taking her picture with the book tomorrow.

I'm glad you got your book! But this disturbs me a little, because I haven't heard anything from MY sons school!!! I don't care about recognition, just verification! There were several of us who worked hard on this silly contest, I'd hate to think we missed out after all! I may have to give them a call...do you mind me asking where you are? Maybe it's a shipping thing? I just went back and saw you were in Boston, so it shouldn't be a whole lot different than me...east coast and all! hmmmmm?

1. It really irks me that these people who are complaining went to Beth and asked that she change things. A couple of people had posted that they wanted the chatter to stop...they posted on 2 different occasions and they listed why. When they didn't get things changed to their satisfaction, they went to Beth and put her in an awkward position against any and all on the Budget Board. How far will these people go to get their way???

2. I haven't heard anything about books, either. But, I seem to live at the ends of the earth so it might be awhile before our school receives a book.

I am excited about the book arriving, too. I volunteer in the library twice a week, so I know I will hear about it when it comes. If they make a fuss over DSs like taking a picture, that would be great.

OK, now I'm gonna have to complain about THIS thread..there is so much chit chat, I can't find the chit chat that DebMcDonald originally posted about her book! Kidding, of course, but I was wondering what day she received it...

Personally, I don't think that they will go any further than to voice their concerns to me. If they feel that the Freebie Thread does not work for them, they will choose to avoid it.

Beth, I guess my main concern was that you were going to somehow stop what we have been doing. And it seems like you are just going to let things remain the same. So I am sorry this has become such a headache for you..this thread shouldn't be that way at all..it is usually my sanctuary from the other forums on the Dis. So...we have all voiced our opinions and we will do what we do. I hope you don't continue to get pm's about this, I am also done talking about it, too.

From reading “comments regarding chat postings” I have the feeling some of the submissions are referring to a post I submitted back when there was a lot of “fighting” occurring on the Freebies site.

I hesitate to say anything for fear of being yell at – again; but if you are talking about me going to Beth, I did not. Yes, I did request in the past “posted on this board, not sent as a pm or email to Beth” that folks be more aware of their chatting and perhaps move the chatting to the Freap board when it escalated; however, once I figured out that it was the fighting and not the chatting that was bothering me, I apologized and have said nothing since – not on this board and not to Beth – who by the way, is only doing her job, definitely not one I would want.

What should I say; pleaseeee don’t yell at me for joining this conversation.
