I visited a website the other night from my home computer and put two things in my cart. Most of the time, a website will put a cookie on your PC and it will remember what you had in your cart.

So today I visited that same website from a completely different computer and I have never been on that website from that computer but somehow it knew about the two items in my cart!!
The site does not have any sign on or passwords.

WTH?

I'm completely baffled as to how that happened.

Anyone care to take a guess?

Ohhh you meant computer nerds...lol

Im just a normal nerd. Hope you find an answer soon.

They're watching you.

Big Brother is watching... he's just 2000 years later than expected. ;)

Maybe it was strictly coincidental. Do others have access to the 2nd PC? If couse, could someone then have put the same 2 items in the cart?

If you are using the same internet connection with a network for these 2 PCs, possibly the website recognized something in your internet service settings (IP?) that triggered this.

BTW - I make no pretense to being a computer nerd but I did work for 13+ years around many and sat through more IT meetings than I can remember plus lunches with many of these geeks who loved to "talk shop".

Not particularly computer savvy either but I'll take a stab.
What with all the brand tribalism these days...could it be you were logged into a partner site in another window? (This happens to me when I've logged into amazon and then open up another window to explore one of their partner sites. I don't have to log into the partner site-they're already alerted.)

None of the above happened.

I don't think it was coincidental because I had never been on that website from that computer which belongs to one of my customers so the connections (IP/internet) are totally different.

Oh well...

I will probably make a purchase from this place which will clear out my cart. It will be interesting to see what happens the next time I'm at that other computer and visit that site.
