Ok, we have dodged getting sick so far this winter. Now there is a nasty Cocxachi virus (hand foot and mouth disease) going around DD's school. I'm wigging out and considering keeping her out of school till we go!! LOL, well, would if I could.....I tell ya, this is the last winter vaca I'm planning. I just can't handle the stress of it all! Flu, weird viruses, terrorists, mad cow, trying to find short sleeved shirts for my baby:hyper: gaaaaaa!!! Anyway, I just needed to vent. My DH is on a plane to St. Louis right now, probably inhaling some dreaded creeping crud.
I just can't take it....
Thanks for listening!

I believe everyone with little ones worries about this. Take any normal steps that you can to keep them well but don't make yourself a hermit! We always bring an over-the-counter meds we may need, take them to the Dr. before we go if they are showing any signs (sore throat, aches, etc.) of an illness, bring hand sanitizer, etc.

But be sure to ENJOY your Disney vacation!!!!!!

Best wishes and best of luck!

Been there, done it. I think this is why we are traveling in the dread month of August. I went with my dd, 10, in mid-Dec. First I worried about not getting out of Logan due to snow. Then I worried about her getting sick. Then I worried that we would get sick after being cooped up on the plane with all those germs. Well, we didn't get snowed in. But dd did get sick, while we were in WDW no less. I think she got a very mild flu. High fever, achy, sore throat, upset tummy. She slept a lot. Had her wash her hands often and not touch any railings etc. Not for her benefit, but for others. We tried to avoid really crowded areas. So....try to stop worrying. Go, have a great trip. Use hand sanitizers a lot!!! Lots of water.

OK, take a deep breath and breath! AHH much better. You can't control kids getting sick so just try to relax. Remind her to wash her hand as much as possible and keep them away from her face. Send her class a big bottle of hand sanitizer for the teacher to use for all the kids.
Don't forget to pack some warm clothes too. January at WDW can be cold, but oh so wonderful. We love those winter trips. Wish we were there too!!!

I am sanitizing as we speak! LOL! I'll be the one at WDW smelling of rubbing alcohol (hand sanitizer), with spotted clothes (bleach wipes) and red chapped hands! Just call me bubbles....I am over freaking out about the clothing issue (layers!) found a bag for my stupid new camera (SLR type, used to use a tiny APS type) am back to eating red meat, figure I'll just beat the snot out of anyone who attempts to stand up on the plane and walk toward the cockpit, and am drinking so much water I could be mistaken for the Hoover Dam. Maybe I should back off the caffine? Gosh, I do need a vacation.....

We leave in 20 days and Im going balistic also!!! Since xmas I have told the kids keep hands away from nose and mouth and we constantly use hand wash in stores and everywhere. Probably the reason for my chapped hands!!! The next 3 weeks will be terrible for my family but I will do everything to keep from getting sick. I will also continue to use the wash even at WDW. Keep germs from other people away. Flu Flu go away come again another day!!!! Have a good trip!!!!

I was so paranoid before my December trip--so I completely understand! My diligence paid off because we stayed well the entire trip--all 8 of us. Oh, I take that back. So many servers would get right in my 3 month olds face to fuss over him--he got a cold! But, not bad...

Okay, this isn't what you wanted to hear but . . . If you must have a child vomit while on vacation, there is no place better than a WDW resort. On one of our vacations, shortly after getting the kids to sleep, my DS vomited all over the bed. I called housekeeping to get fresh linen. That's all I expected - clean linens. However, when I opened the door about five minutes after I called, there was the "vomit crew." There were 2 of them wearing gloves and holding plastic bags. They came in, scooped up the mess and had clean sheets on the bed; within 5 minutes of their arrival, you would never know anyone had been sick.

Don't worry about the stuff you have no control over. Eat well, get plenty of rest, and yes, wash those hands. And have a wonderful vacation.:bounce:

I got coxsackie virus at school (i'm a teacher.. along with 5th's desease and most recently the chicken pox).. The kids seem to handle it better than the adults... I'm sening you positive vibes that everything will be fine!:D Good luck!
