There is still an email scam going around that is targeting eBay users. I just received an email not 30 minutes ago attempting to get me to provide my name, address, logon, password, credit card info, etc.

The email appears to be from "ebay" and mine was titled Security Alert! I think it is ironic that the authors of this email are the actual security issue.

Below is the text of the message I received. I've broken the links so that no one will use them accidentally.

Be aware that just because the link they provide for you to click on says http://www.ebay.com/..., this does not mean that is where you will be directed if you click on it. In my case, I tracked it down to an internet service provider in Lousiana. The page displayed will look like it is eBay, but it isn't!! EBay clearly states that they will not send emails like this or ask for this type of information.

That's pretty scary Bob. I can imagine a lot of people will fall for that.

Did you report this to Ebay?

Yea, Dave, it does look pretty convincing. I did notify eBay right before posting here. They have an email address, spam@ebay.com, to which I forwarded a copy of the email I received.

I did just get an update on changes in their user agreement but it didn't ask for any information and links only took me to information on the eBay site regarding changes in their user agreement.

Donna, I got that too. Certainly nothing wrong with that.

I bet that the person sending out this email timed it to be close on the heels of the legitimate one from eBay about the user agreement. That way it might seem more real and catch more people. As a matter of fact, you might notice that, although I broke the link in the copy I posted, the email I received contained a link to the real eBay site user agreement. Again, just makes it look more believable.

Yes, I realize there was nothing wrong with it. I just didn't want people to delete everything they get that looks like it is from eBay. That makes sense that they would follow a legitimate e-mail...

Lots of predators out there. :(

Thanks for the heads up Bob. I think my junk filter is on so high - that it ended up in my trash anyway!

Thanks, Bob. I did get the one Donna mentioned, but not the other. Again, thanks.
