Went out fishing this afternoon with my son. We are in Loop 100, so we walked the nature trail around to the canal behind the 300 loop. Nothing! Tried a bunch of lures, jigs, worms, you name it. Not even a little bite.

We moved over to where the canal empties (actuallu is pumped- they had a big pump on the bridge putting water from the canal into the lake. The water level is over 12 inches below the "normal" water line" in the lake and too low in the canal to go over the spillway)

There is so much grass and moss along the shore of the main lake, it is hard to cast over it and reel in.

I figured with your help and Marty showing me how it's done, we would catch something more than grass.

Weather is great and it's nice to site on the bank and look at the scenery.

All right boys! :earsgirl:

Just left the fort today (6/5/11) and had a TON of luck fishing. My son mostly was in the main pond fishing off of the little "dock".

(Hit Bass Pro Shop for their worms). They are 1/2 the price and you get 20 FAT/ active worms in each container. We kept the containers in a bag in our frig. so they would last. At the Fort they are $6.00 and not impressive. Anyway....

Catfish= Caught 3 nice size ones (about 18+" each). He had a blast fighting these guys and we just put a FAT worm on a hook, attached a weight and fished the bottom. Throw at that floating silver thing, let it sink and wait! (That was the hard part for a 9yr old boy.) But that's why we brought 3 rods! Plus being on the dock we could lean the pole and just watch it.

Bass= Hooked into 3 of these as well. 1 on a dark artificial worm, and 2 with a real worm. One was looking up at us right in front of the dock so I figured what the heck. Dropped a worm in front of him, he sucked it in....FISH ON! All were over 12".

We caught 12+ of some other little fish. Dark in color, little red belly, small mouth, size range 6"-9".

They are sunfish and could be one of several types. Red bellies, stump knockers, shell crackers, copper heads. We call'em all Bream. Live crickets work well also.
