The French Government has ordered the cancellation of six flights between Paris and Los Angeles following a security alert.
The cancellations were requested by the US embassy in Paris - which mentioned fears of a terror attack, French officials said.

The Air France services were due to fly on Wednesday and Thursday.

The cancellations come amid a huge security operation at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

Police have stopped drop-offs from private vehicles at terminals, amid fears of a terror attack. Los Angeles Mayor James Hahn called the restrictions "a precautionary measure during a period of heightened readiness".

We are taking all reports of any threats very seriously.

jj.........

The concern is that people sympathetic to the terrorists are also commercial airline pilots for foreign airlines. Hopefully, this stopage means they have an idea of where these pilots are based and they'll stop them before they take-off. Truly devious minds are at work.

I can't believe i'm hearing this - it just gets better

I guess it must be ok to be an American Pilot but be drunk in charge of a Plane

Truly devious minds are at work.

You got that part right

jj, you are unbleieveable!!!!!!!!! Of course, Ireland is such a peaceful, wonderful, united, well-run country that it must give you a lot of time to look for things about the USA to bash, since there's nothing to fix in oyur own backyard.

Mean while, for those logical DISers who wish to have an intelligent exchange about current events, my feeling is that if the heightened security works toward keeping people safe, then I say all for it.

Sounds like our guys are on top of it....but it is a signal detection error. We might stop 99.9%, but all it takes is one to get through and......well, let us pray at this Christmas time that our intelligence guys can stop any attacks before they get started in a peaceful and nonviolent way, and for peace and understanding betwen ALL residents of earth.

PamOKW i like unreservedly apologise -- from the news we're getting over here in the UK - its looks like Al-Qaeda might have infiltrated Air France - as part of the crew

The part i don't get if the have why wait all this time to attack:confused:

Disney Doll - again you need to go on a MAP reading course -- i don't live in Ireland - its Northern Ireland which is part of the United Kingdom ( plus we've caught on to you ) ;)

Jen - Did you not hear about Captain Richard Harwell who was arrested on Friday night but released from jail after paying $25,000 [£15,000] bail.

He is due to appear in district court in Loudoun County, Virginia on 3 February for a preliminary hearing.

Mr Harwell had been due to fly 383 passengers and 17 crew from Washington Dulles airport to Heathrow in the UK on Friday night.

Earlier, alarmed security staff at Washington's Dulles airport had reported Harwell was behaving erratically. Ground staff tipped off the authorities after allegedly smelling alcohol on his breath.

A breathalyser test apparently confirmed that he had been drinking and was, according to industry regulations, unfit to fly

PS - the signature stays read what its says

You said it JJ, nobody else said here that it is ok. I don't think anyone here will agree that this is ok. And why is it that you always have something to say to offend Americans?

Thats that tongue in cheek thing again but from what i've read i guess you guys don't understand it - must be a British thing Sorry

jj........

I don't think that is tongue in cheek like you say, it's more like putting words in other people's mouths.

you now the only thing I dont like about the ignore feature? When someone quotes you still see it.... not so good for the old blood pressure :p

Sorry Meagan, I just hate when people put words in my mouth about things I don't agree with and they assume I do.

Hey I'm right there with ya... I was just teasing. I decided to take Dan's advice and ignore him. It's just not worth my aggrivation.

Good news everyone... I figured out how to put someone on Ignore :jumping1: Guess who my first victim was? :teeth:

However, I had to point out a passage from the AP story about this situation.......

The flights scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday were called off because of information obtained ``in the framework of the French-American fight against terrorism,'' the French prime minister's office said.

The French-American fight against terrorism???????? Does Chirac think he's fooling anyone? All I can do is shake my head.

LOL, Presh. It has been months since I had anything on ignore around here, or even mention it. But maybe I need to go find that function again, it did help back then.
