Can't wait to see what our electric bills will be next summer? :earseek: :earseek:

FPL Says It's Sorry, But You're Still Going To Pay
Cost Increases To be Passed On To Consumers

MIAMI -- Florida Power and Light is apologizing for raising rates again saying the cause is the same reason you're paying more at the gas pump.

FPL took out full pages ad in both the Miami Herald and Sun-Sentinel Thursday explaining why it wants to collect nearly $2 billion more in revenue over the next couple years.

The company says it's gas bill is going up, and they have no choice but to pass that cost along to consumers.

That means it's going to get more expensive to use the refrigerator, dishwasher and other appliances around the house.

South Florida homeowners are used to higher electric bills during the summer months, but lately some residents say their best efforts to conserve are useless.

Jill Wade, said, "I noticed increase in light bill and I didn't feel like I use any more electric than I normally do."

FPL says it expects to spend almost $600 million more for fuel than it's collecting from consumers and that shortfall increases with the price of gas.

The rate increase it plans to ask for will raise residential rates about 15 percent.

Another F.P.L Rate Increase?

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Customers of Florida Power and Light could see bills go up by as much as 16 percent next year because of the rising cost of fuel, particularly natural gas and oil. That's if the company is allowed to pass its skyrocketing energy costs on to consumers.

F.P.L. is the state's largest electric company. It filed a request with regulators yesterday seeking to pass on $579 million in higher fuel costs to consumers starting in January.

Company spokeswoman Pat Davis says F.P.L. is frustrated that it's unable to control fuel prices.

The request is separate from two others that will mean an extra five dollars a month for the average customer. Those increases are to pay for hurricane recovery and the growing demand for power in Florida.

It still beats paying the electric bill AND $400+/month for the natural gas bill :rotfl: Seriously, though, I think that I finally have DH convinced to look into getting a solar array :cool1: It's not so much the cost of the electric bills (which honestly aren't bad compared to what we were used to where we used to live), but the principle. I'm tired of being so dependent on fossil fuels. I've been pushing for a solar array for years...maybe higher energy prices will work in my favor on this

As a side note about FPL...we lost power for maybe 15 minutes a couple of months ago. They actually sent us a letter w/in a few days, apologizing for the "outage" and explaining what happened. We couldn't get over that one :rotfl: Talk about customer service!
