Haven't been to Disney since 2011, so there's lots of new things to learn. I see people posting about using FP+ with hoppers. We will most likely not have hoppers. This is a very last minute trip and right now the budget doesn't allow for them. Is there an advantage to FP+ AND hoppers over basic tickets?

Don't know how far away your trip is but if you staying on-site you can make 3 FP+ reservations at 60 days. Off site at 30 days. After your time window has passed on your 3 you can get 4 and more at Kiosks. I know you didn't ask this but I am getting all up to speed to and didn't know what you knew!

There is no advantage to FastPass+ with hoppers...other than you can hop and get additional FP+ in a different park (after you've used all three in the first park). You're probably reading a lot about it because being able to get additional FP+ after the first three, and being able to do so in a different park, is relatively new.

I guess we are getting old because we are enjoying base tickets lately. No different with the FP+. We got our tickets shipped to us, I flipped my phone over, scanned the barcode in each and assigned each person 'their ticket', and made our FP reservations. Easy peasy.

(On the topic of FP, I wonder if they will ever fix the Tier 1 problem, which caused problems with our family. For instance, they should let us pick one Tier 1 for the morning, and another Tier 1 in the evening. That way, the people that rode the other ones switch. It doesn't make sense the way it is now. RR and TSMM, both had 80 minute lines. We chose one FP and had to get in line for the other. When it was FP-, we could get FPs for the Tier 1 rides, and that is my biggest chief complaint so far.)
