FP+ Why only 3 options?

Just curious: Is there any rhyme or reason behind having only 3 FP+ choices per day? On our last trip, it just seemed like 3 choices were not enough & it was a huge struggle to choose only 3, especially if one was a preferred fireworks show or a meet & greet or something. & especially if you are planning to spend an entire day in a park....Is it just not logistically possible for Disney to allow more than 3 options? I'm not saying they should allow a zillion choices per day, but I do feel that 5 would be more reasonable.

I could be wrong, but it seemed like you could do more than 3 FP selections per day when they were using the paper FP model-?

Just wondering if there is a rationale behind only having 3 choices per day?

Thanks :)

you can get another at a kiosk once the 3 are used up.

We go at Rope drop- ride everything we want and get out of the park by lunch. Save our FP for night--

so far its been working great.

Next trip i plan on FP early so when we come back we can do more FP rides

To limit FP capacity on each attraction and spread the fastpasses around to more guests.

Is it just one extra you can get? Or after that one can you get another, etc?

Also, they need to enable people to get the extra one/s via the DME app. Causing queues for no reason is ridiculous.

I would understand this is they just limited it to one FP+ per attraction per day, but spread out across all attractions, fireworks shows, & meet & greets, it just doesn't seem like allowing a few more per day would really mess up the ease of FP+ lines, unless I'm missing something.....

Really? Is this a fluke in the system or is this something WDW actually allows? Do they advertise this anywhere? If they are allowing this at the kiosks, why not just allow it on the app?

Yes you can now get more than 3 FP+ per day. Once you have used the first 3 FP+ you can get additional ones (one at a time, after you've finished the previous one). Yes, at present you can only do this at the kiosks. As for using the app- this is Disney we're talking about. You do know just how long it takes them to add in anything new to an app (and have it work properly) don't you?? Be patient. It will happen. Eventually.

Thank you! I just wish I knew this on our last trip.

Just so I understand, you can get as many FP+ as you want through the kiosks, as long as they are one at a time? & you cannot book another one until the prior one has been used up?

Yes, AFTER you have used your first three (so if you have fireworks or fantasmic you can't get extra FP+ till after). It is just like the old system is the get one, use it, get another, use it, until you leave.

You can reserve 3 FP+ via the website or app 30 days in advance (60 for on-site). Once those are used or expired, you can get as many as you'd like one at a time.

Like the old FP, most of the popular attractions don't have FP+ available after noon or so (Toy Story, 7DMT, A&E).

For the moment any additional FP+ after the first 3 must be selected at a kiosk, maybe someday you'll be able to do it via app. You are also limited to a 4th+ FP+ to the park you are currently in (meaning you cant book Soarin' for your 4th fastpass from an MK kiosk...gotta go to Epcot first).

Also, the app doesn't currently show available FP or FP return times either for your 4th+ (hopefully this changes too, especially if you're considering hopping). The app will let you schedule your first 3 and show you availability though.

When was your last trip? This is a pretty recent (I'd say at most 2 months) change.

Yep, once you've used your first 3 (or the return windows have expired), you can get a fourth, then after using that one you can get a fifth, and so on.

The problem is by the time you get to your 4th, the headliners are booked up for the day.

I have no problem with the limit of 3, just wish they'd allow more than one per hour. There is no way I couldn't do BTMRR at 11 and make it to SM by 11:30, that way I'd have a better chance at burning through my first 3 and having a shot at securing a good 4th.

Yep, you have to actually be present in the park you want your additional FPs for; you can't be in MK and obtain FPs for rides in other parks - you have to go to that park, go to a kiosk, and pull up your MDE account. Don't count on the most popular rides to have FPs available in the afternoon unless you go at a really slow time of year; once they're gone, they're gone.

Even with the limitations of the extra FPs (can't use the app to reserve, can't book them until the first three are used, have to use a kiosk, have to be in the park the FP is for to reserve) it's much better than the previous limitation of 3 FP+ per day, period! I went in February and we were limited to only three per day. What a pain! At least now, you can get more based upon availability!

there are kiosks everywhere in the world-- using the kiosk gives everyone a chance to get one. You get a 4th at the kiosk--not the app.
when the 4th is done-- you get another-- etc etc. Used wisely you can get like 10.

The problem is by the time you get to your 4th, the headliners are booked up for the day.

But how is this any different than the old one at a time? Pick your first fast pass, get a one hour window. Can't get a second one until you either use the first one, or two hours after the first window (opened or close, don't remember). So you head straight to TSM, get a fast pass that's already out until 11 am. So you don't get to ride it till then. By the time you're allowed a 2nd fast pass the rest of the fast passes for that ride were gone for the day.

This saves the mad dash at rope drop for the fast pass machine. Instead, we can mad dash for a short standby ride, since we already have a fast pass for later than morning, plus two others for different rides already queue'd up.

I schedule my SP and BTMRR back to back- I use SP as close to the end as possible without going pass it... then by the time I am done my BTMRR is ready.

Correct, you were limited to 3 in February.

I try to keep the OP of my FastPass thread (the green link in my signature) updated with all current rules. This was one that changed I believe sometime in April or May.

Thank you-I wasn't aware this thread existed! I"m bookmarking it for our next trip :)

My problem there is if you have a FP for SM for 10-11 and BTMRR from 11-12 your next FP+ can't happen till a 12-1 window. Any chance of a good 4th FP+ is now completely shot.

If they'd let you book 30 minutes apart you could FP SM at 10, BTMRR at 10:30 and something else at 11, which when you get done riding means you're now attempting #4 at 11:15ish.

In my opinion it is not really any different. After you exclude the first 3 you can reserve in advance. Which is probably why all the "I hate FP+" posts are sort of lost on me. The one thing FP+ has done is add lines to rides that didn't have them before, namely rides that didn't have any FP before. When they brought on FP+ they added rides to the system that had in the past been standby by only. That is where most of the changes lie
