FP+ Strategies

I have not been to WDW since FP+. I have never been a fan of park hoppers due to the extra cost and time required to hop and have never used them. We've always done 1 park per day with paper FP (rope drop, break, return later). However, with the introduction of FP+, it seems like there are 2 basic strategies:

1) One park per day - Book your FP+ in the morning or mid-day and attempt to get as many additional FPs as you can for later in the day.

2) Rope drop in one park (taking advantage of EMH if avail) without using FP, then hop to a different park in the evening using FP+.

Just looking for feedback from FP+ vets to determine which approach works better. This will be for a summer visit around July 4 holiday, so high crowd levels. TIA.

Many rope drop with #1 and book FPs beginning in late morning.

FP and Park Hopping strategies are in the FP FAQ Addendum.

IN general, i like to pick just one park a day and not waste money on park hoppers. Rope drop and get fp+ for later in the morning when the lines are starting to build. Then there is still time to get a 4th, 5th, etc. The tiers are annoying though which challenge my planning a bit.

We have gotten park hoppers for our previous and next trip but that's bc we took advantage of a previous great discount from Parksavers. However we usually don't hop. We do midday break and usually return to the same park. So we usually scheduled FP either all in the afternoon after returning from break, or maybe 1 later in the morning and the remaining 2 after break.

Park hopping can be really helpful if you do it correctly. Also meaning that you are going to want to plan the heck out of your trip. Park hopping is also really good if you want to see the maximum of disney that you can in a short period of time. The major benefits of the park hopper for my family is the idea that we don't really like "waste time", when we are in disney we are in disney. We try to use every possible second to get all of the magic in. Depending on where you start the day can really impact how much you park hop. Park hopping from Hollywood Studios to Epcot is by far the easiest because they are so close to each other. So to give you an example of what I did on my most recent trip; I was to start my morning at rope drop at AK then move over to Hollywood Studios with Fps (late morning earlyish afternoon) stop at the hotel from a nap (we stayed at the Boardwalk Inn) and then finish your night in Epcot. I would never suggest going from lets say AK to MK then down to Epcot because of how spread out they are. If you want an idea on travel time my suggestion is google Walt Disney World Travel Time calculator, its a calculator that you can plug in any two spots in Disney and get every possible mode of transportation to get there and how long it will take on average to get there. Its very useful for Park Hopping planning! If you any more questions feel free to ask!
