FP soarin or TT?

We will be in Epcot January 2nd (originally January 4th but you all know that story). Last time I was there we FP test track and rope dropped soarin and all went well, we waited about 10 min for soarin, but when we got off in those 20 minutes or so the ride was now an 80 minute wait, so we have soarin FP this time and test track for rope drop. I have no experience with TT at rope drop, so I wanted to know if this is a better or worse option?

Good question. I think it depends on what you want to do after the rope drop ride. While you are on 1 side of FW, you can ride other attractions after the rope drop, then make your way to the FP attraction.

With that said, Soarin does tend to hit longer wait times quicker in the morning. Soarin can easily hit 70+ minutes before 10:00, where TT often happens later morning. FP tends to cut wait times to about 15% of posted times - so as you wait later in the day to use your FP, you will wait longer at an attraction with a super long wait. However, TT has the additional time of design your car, so you have to consider total ride time probably balances out.

Considering Soarin' will be going down for a refurb on January 4 (?), you are wise to fp that and ride TT standby. Anyone who has dates that overlap yours will probably angling for one last ride on Soarin' before it closes for 6 months!

TT has a single line rider option that moves pretty quickly. I can't tell if that works for your family or not.

This last trip we used FP for TT and did rope drop for Soarin'. We walked at a brisk pace and had little wait. That was during a pretty busy time.

There are a couple of arguments for a Soarin'; FP; 1) with Soarin' closing shortly after that date a lot of people will be wanting to rife it that day and 2) if you want to to Sum of All Thrills in innoventions. the line right after you do TT will be almost a walk on. Later in the day you could see 30 minute wait easily.

Just my two cents, but we love Soarin' if it was my decision I would rope drop Soarin' and get a FP for Soarin' for later, then do TT standby, using the single rider line if that works for your family or just wait in the regular line

If you can, I would suggest trying for an early breakfast reservation, before park opening at the Garden Grill beside Soarin'. Ride that immediately then go straight to Test Track. Use a fastpass to ride Test Track again later in the day. IMO Soarin' is a ride you do once, and you're good. Out of the two Test Track is the one my kids always want to ride again.

I would FP Soarin. I find that test track tends to move faster than the stand by time indicates and the queue is more interesting IMHO.

I think it's best to FP Soarin' and do TT standby. If you walk directly there at rope drop, the longest standby wait you'll encounter is 20 minutes but I've found the TT wait time is usually exaggerated, especially right at park opening. Worst case scenario, you can each decide to do the single rider line and the wait will only be about 10min for that.

We did TT at rope drop and diverted directly to the standby line. My two teens and I ended up getting right into a car and riding together before the swarm could make it through all the car design stuff.
