FP+ "Problems" - I Just Don't Get It

Not sure I understand what you mean- but we make room only reservations, buy our tickets online separately and we don't have a package when we're done.

ME is not limited to packages.

If you book room only and add tickets..it becomes a package by default..even though what you booked is room only with a room only discount and added on tickets...it costs the same as a room only and buying the tickets online separately (from Disney).
It traps you into the package rules...so I wont do that again

Good to know about ME....never really looked at that with room only.

Not correct. It's a separate booking. To turn a room-only into a package, it must be actually cancelled and rebooked. They can't just turn a room-only into a package by adding tickets because the room only and the packages have separate booking systems. What likely happened is that whoever you spoke to assumed you wanted a package and did the rebooking, or they didn't know any better and decided that they had to change you to a package in order to do what you wanted.

Best to spell out for them that you want the room and the tickets to be separate.

No, we book our room only, at some point we buy our tickets thru the website and we're still under room only rules. I know there's something about being able to convert to a package after having booked room only, but I have no idea how that works- have never done it.

You may be right..but it's not what I've seen at all - I booked it all online with the room only code - the second I added tickets it was a package in the same transaction it became a package.

The only thing I changed when I called in was to move to the resort that finally opened up at 44 days out - but it was a package before that so I had to pay a fee to upgrade.

Could be totally different if I called in when I booked it, but this is what I've experienced the last few years booking on line (probably changes systems seamlessly) , it was never a big deal for me as I don't plan on canceling once I book, and expected the upgrade charge to be waved if and when I upgraded. And DDP was not a factor in any of this in previous years.

Anyway we may be getting way off topic for this thread....but if you have advice on this for future I'd like to hear it...if I do decide to go back again some day I'll be sure to call and and verify it is room only.

We just got back from an 8 day trip. It was sort of last minute, for the way I plan, so I did not book our fastpass+ till around 44 days out. We got almost everything we wanted. This was an adults only trip so no character meet and greets were needed, though we managed to be in the right place at the right time for several, which was a bonus. The system is a bit glitchy. It also is SLIGHTLY annoying in the way its set up. As with everything though, it is a work in progress. We were at the parks at rope drop each day and were able to ride several of our favorites multiple times before the masses arrived. On some days, we did not even need the fastpasses. I never got 7DMT but was able to ride it during the second parade during MNSSHP and on another day during the Festival Of fantasy parade with only a 30 minute wait each time. I am a HUGE planner though. I even plan our route through the parks each day. The system worked for us, but as with everything, individual results will vary. My biggest wish would be to have more than 3 available to book in advance.

Freaking out! We are about 22 days out and I've booked no FP's! Is all hope lost?

Ah Booking online. I'm DVC and when I book regular rooms I book through Orbitz so I do not mess with the Disney site and as an AP I don't buy tickets anyway. However, when booking online, book the room and tickets as a separate transaction. Don't add the tickets to your room, pay for the room and then book the tickets.

No, but I'd advise booking some FP+s if you can.

You don't have to use them if they don't turn out to be what you want to do at the time, but they could turn out to be useful.

No harm done by booking some (unless website/app glitches start driving you bonkers... ;) )

I'm already seeing several things are out of distribution :( I really screwed up. With all of my dd's medical issues I haven't been paying much attention to the chatter on the boards. How does this affect baby swap?

Baby swap works as it always has. Take the baby with you to the CM at the fp exit, get a swap. First group rides with fp+, second group ( up to 3) rides. Second group does not need a fp+.

Thanks for all the help so far! I'm booking some online now (on phone) and its giving me the main attraction I ask for and recommendations? Can I not choose my other FP? Am I doing this wrong? Someone mentioned a cardinal rule earlier and I don't even understand that lol.

That sounds right for DHS and Epcot...you can only pick 1 tier 1 ride..the other two must be tier 2 rides..so for example if you book soarin you can't pick test track as well.....

Best thing is to read the info thread (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3326057) if you can find the time....
