In not too very long we'll be retiring and we plan to spend considerable time in Fl during the Winter. As such we'll be nearby with no definite trip plans in MDE and I'm wondering when, if ever, we can make FP+ choices for a spur of the moment visit. For instance, with APs in hand, we decide to pop into Epcot in a week, can we make FP+ selections? Never had to face this as all our previous trips have been planned 11 months out and MDE shows availability at 60 days.

of course - with annual passes, you have the 30 day window at all times, knowing you have a limit of 7 days worth. I often make FP+ for a upcoming Saturdays or Sundays just in case we go, and cancel them if we don't. In the past year, i have used the friendly updates seen on the DIS listing an influx of FP for FOP and make them for as many weekend days as i can find them and see if the family is able to go later on. Generally speaking, except for SDMT, FOP, and SDD, you can get FP+ for any ride inside of the 30 day window.

Thanks, good to know. I suppose what we'll do when the time comes is to make FP+ choices 30 days out and cancel as it becomes apparent that we won't be going on certain dates. We'll be going down for the month of Feb. to escape Winter and we're interested in doing Florida stuff other than WDW but Disney will always be in the background, calling.

You may find the Availability post in the FP FAQ helpful.

First of all, I think the only point to your post is to rub it in that you'll be retiring and be a snowbird. ;) :P Seriously, that's awesome, good for you!!

You can always make spur of the moment FP+ plans, even during Xmas to New Years. We've been AP holders and limited to the 30 day rule too. Even with that, we're very much the "wing it" type at WDW. We do make FP+ at the 30 day mark, but very often we wind up changing them day of. We'll wake up and the kids will say "We'd rather be in Epcot" when we had plans for HS. So we drop HS and pick up Epcot. If you use refresh, you'll have little trouble getting FP+ day of, at times you want.

I have found that often I have BETTER options booking just a couple days out than I do when I stay onsite and book 60 days out. Reality is that so many people tweak things, esp the week before, that everything is an option with just some simple refreshing.

Like the others, I book out 30 days on dates when I think we might go and then just cancel if we opt to not go - or if I check the traffic on I4 before leaving the house and decide my blood pressure can't handle it ;) Even if we decide last minute to visit, I've never struggled to get really good options.

For fun, I checked Epcot next Friday for party of 2. Plenty of availability for TT, Soarin, FEA in late AM and early afternoon
