FP+ and staying offsite

I'm helping a friend plan her Disney park days and her trip is next week. She has never been to Disney before. Her husband is off-site at a conference so she and the kids will be staying with him. Apparently, he can get a really good deal on tickets through this conference, so she hasn't gotten them yet. I've always stayed onsite, so I'm not sure how FP+ would work in this case (we used it in August while staying at Pop). Is there a way of booking FP+ for her even though she doesn't have her tickets? I think that she will get very overwhelmed if she has to book her reservations while there, so I was thinking of making her touring plans based on no FP availability.

She can go to a fp kiosk when she's at the park & try to get them for those days. That way, if it happens fine, if not, it doesn't sound like she cares much.
