So I called WDW last week to change my BWI package for August to BWV and was told I would have to rebook and could lose my FP+ that we picked earlier this month. I was unable to change it online as the choices given were not the discounted rate.

I searched online and the discounted rates are still available but I cannot modify our reservation. So I just I chatted with WDW and was told I can book my new package with the discounted rate and that my FP+ would be fine as long as I book the same date package with tickets.

I feel like you all know better than anyone. What should I do? I don't want to cancel what I have first, I am planning to book another stay and then cancel but still leery about losing my FP+. Feedback??

Your FPs remain intact based on linked tickets and ANY onsite room reservation.

So do I not need to buy tickets again? Just book a new room at BWV?
If your original reservation is a package, you need to replace with a package.

Just call and adjust dates for your package with new pricing. FPs remain intact as it’s a safety feature for resort package changes.

I tried that. The CM I spoke to said I couldn't just switch from BWI to BWV and I'd have to rebook and I would lose my FP+. The CM I am chatting with now had me book a new package same dates at BWV so now I have two trips in MY PLANS, same dates, one at the INN and one at the VILLAS. I am afraid to cancel the INN since I am worried I'll lose my FP. Here is what chatting CM says

"That is correct! The system only cares that you have a reservation for those dates and Tickets. As long as you have them, your FastPasses are safe!"

Cancel the old reservation.

Your FPs remain as booked.

So I did it. Thank you. I was just too chicken but I booked BWV with tickets and then cancelled the BWI package. Worked great all my FP+ remained. And in fact, when I had both rooms books, I still only had one set of tickets in my plans. The CM I got on the phone last week was clearly not very knowledgable. Thank you!!!
