Four year olds and strollers

My DS turned 4 on our last trip, and we would park in an area than explore and come back and get it before moving on to the next. He walked a lot, but it is also nice to have times when he's contained.

Not everyday, but there were still days that DS fell asleep for a while in the stroller, and a few times on the bus on the way back to the resort. Nice to have a stroller to get him back to the room.

Finally, DS is just too heavy to carry. The child is just so "dense," always has been. It's either walk or ride, no carrying.

We're going again in April and DS will be 4.5. He'll have his stroller again.

DS is almost 4 and DD is almost 1. We dont have a double stroller. DS prefer's to walk when we are out and about. However Disneyworld is diffrent. We are not going for a while, but tell him now already, when we go to WDW there will be a stroller for you and your sister to use. If you get tired. No one's going to carry you, but there will be a stroller for you. ( We are going to rent a stroller from Orlando Stroller Rental)
He's cool with that. It gives him the choice of walking or if he wants he can ride with his sister.

Rent or take one! I love having the stroller to hold the extra stuff, will be sad when we won't need it anymore! But we will still need it for a least a couple of more years!

I'd think having the option would be good. My DD will be 4.5 when we go and I plan to bring a double since her little brother will be two.

What type of stroller do you have for your 4/5 year olds? My sister is bring my nephew who will be a month shy of 5, what are good strollers for bigger kids? He looks stuffed into the stroller she already has! She was thinking of renting a Disney stroller but I think she will need her own stroller at night leaving the parks.

If she doesn't want to buy one and still have it outside the parks, try Orlando Stroller Rentals http://store.orlandostrollerrentals.com/ They deliver to your resort, you have it outside the parks, it is less $$ than renting from Disney, and bigger kids will be comfortable.

If you do a search, you can find great reviews of the strollers and service.

My friend rented from them after I told her about reviews here. Her kids were 3 and 5 and fit fine in the double. She was very happy with the stroller and service.

I'd take your own small one. The WDW rental strollers don't look comfortable at all. My high energy DD has absolutely refused to ride in a stroller since the time she could walk EXCEPT at WDW. She is now 4. She has been to WDW 3 times. DH and I were debating the stroller for this year, so I asked her "Do you want us to take a stroller to WDW this year?". She looked at me like I was a complete idiot and said in her best sarcastic 13 year old voice "Uh yeah". Followed up by "I need to ride. It's too big to walk everywhere there".

We took our daughter for her first trip when she was 4.It was in the Sept heat and she did FINE WITHOUT a STROLLER..If you don't want to bring one, don't.Seriously it can be done without one.

Neither of my kids have used a stroller much as babies/toddlers. What we did was planned on renting them once we were there to see how it was going. We only lasted 3 hours in epcot with out one. We got one each for our 4 and 6 yr old. Best money we spent all week. We would park it, do an area, get it again.

We're bringing the stroller for DD who will be turning 5 the week we get home. She's very tall for her age and she can still ride comfortably in her Maclaren umbrella stroller.

I don't expect her to ride much, we'll park it like others have mentioned and just use the stroller for storage and when we have to travel long distances when she's tired.

I totally agree! None of mine used it at 4 and we have gone in heat and high crowds and believe me my DH is a fast walker. They have never had a problem. They never ask for a stroller because to them only babies ride in one so have never even thought of getting one. Kids have as much if not more energy than any adult and if I can walk it so can they. I never carried one either past maybe 2. So I agree it can be done, done easily and it is so freeeing! There is almost as much sitting in Disney as there is walking.

We went when DS was 3 and he hardly used the stroller so when he was 4 we didn't bring one. We rented one on the MVMCP night because we knew that would be a late night for him. Well, by the end of the trip he was getting pretty worn out. Epcot was the worst. The major problem I think is after 6 or 7 days of all that walking it starts to be too much. If it is maybe 4 or 5 days probably not but, any more I think you would be happier if you had one. Also DH and I are very tall so he does have to walk a lot more steps than us. Can you imagine walking 2-3Xs as much. I wouldn't want to do it!
