Four year-old dies vs. Vanity Plates

I'm not at all sure why it should seem strange. I feel bad for the family, but we have 2-3 people a week die from traffic accidents in my city and life doesn't come to a grinding halt because of them. Plus this topic was being discussed to pieces over on the Parks board where it really should be discussed. Are we not supposed to continue with our normal DVC discussions?

FWIW JimMIA, I think I get the gist of your post. It was more a comment on the innate absurdity of discussion boards that allows a death related post and a vanity post to coexist equally. I didn't take it as anything else. :)

I beg to differ. My reasons for believing differently: The OP has an angry smiley in the subject area. If the intention of the post was to point out the absurdity of a situation why the anger?

Even if the rest of the board wants to talk about famine, pestilence and misery we all should have the right to Hanname without being judged. My 2 cents. :sunny:

I do agree with Mar' I was over at the theme parks board early and posted and I was upset about it yesterday (and today for that matter :guilty: ), however, I also spent time on the funny threads I love yesterday, to help me be distracted from my sad thoughts :wizard: :grouphug:

I guess only the OP can clear that up. I think he clarified that when in a later post he said:

I give more weight to this explanation then a perhaps ill-advised angry smiley.

Agree. And I think the OP does too. Just my .03 (inflation).

I think we interpret this quote differently:<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=6 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD class=alt2 style="BORDER-RIGHT: 1px inset; BORDER-TOP: 1px inset; BORDER-LEFT: 1px inset; BORDER-BOTTOM: 1px inset">Originally Posted by JimMIA

You seem to see it as a "nice" explanation. I see it as "how can people talk about something as trivial as vanity plates when this horrible thing happened". Writing "it seemed strange at the time" seemed to me to insinuate that this was the wrong time to discuss the topic, not that the absurdity of the difference. It was not the same as saying "Isn't it amazing how on one board we can be talking about something so serious but THIS board still allows us to have fun, even in the midst of tragedy".

I don't mean to be picky and if the OP's intentions were to point out an absurdity, as you say, I have no argument whatsover with that. But the word absurd has only been used by you as far as I can see Rash, not the OP. In the spirit of Hanname I'll be more than happy to apologize if he says that's what he meant. :flower1: :scratchin

I was the one who posted about the Epcot tragedy yesterday..I am kicking myself so hard now for doing that :sad2:

I really did not mean to cause a fuss over the thread and now I feel like I need to explain why I posted it here on the DVC board as another poster pointed out that it should not have been here in the first place.

Ok, first I'm still fairly new to the boards as far as posting goes, so I was just stupid I guess in assuming it would be ok to put it here.. :confused3

Second, I don't often read the other boards (I know, shame on me  ) so I didnt even know it was there. I posted it here as soon as I heard about because I was in shock and wondered if any of my other DVC friends knew about it as well. I see now that was a mistake and should have searched all the other boards first.

Again, im sorry if I offended anyone with the post being on this board and I am truly sorry to have caused a fuss with everyone. :sad1:

Melissa - I do not think that anyone blames you for posting it here. When I think of spreading Disney news, I think first of these boards, as I know them best. It was a shock and you posted on the board where you felt more comfortable. After reading other threads that got out of hand, I avoided yours. Just didn't want to see any more. That by no means meant I was upset with you for posting, just that I did not want to look at it any more.

I was more upset with the thought that it was bad of us to think trivial things when others are suffering. I think that's what upset peple here the most. The thought that the OP of this thread weas telling us we were bad to go on with trivial things.

Jim - I appreciate your clarifying that that is not what you meant.

Hopefully, we've learned that we all need to deal with things in different ways and we can just accept that while one person seems unaffected, you just don't know why they are doing what they do.

OK. Group hug! :grouphug:

FWIW, from a newbie to the Dis and DVC (I wonder how long I will feel the need to post that caveat?), I also do not always have the time to follow the other Dis boards. If I have a *little* time to Dis, I check the first 2 DVC boards.

So, without your post, I might not have heard at all. And while I'm glad to now know about the tragedy, I'm glad on this board at least, it almost certainly won't degenerate into a whole lot of yelling and finger pointing. :)

That's absurd! :teeth: Thats' a fun word to say - perhaps I'll make it my next word-to-shout-in-public-for-no-apparent-reason.

As far as the topic at hand - okay, whatever. You may be right, I may be right - it's all good. I'm just not easily angered or offended, so I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. Not that that's necessarily a good thing -maybe not. I'M SOOOOOO CONFUUUUSED!!!!!

I'm definitely right though. Maybe.

Ok you two , now kiss and make up!
Wait, maybe not...there's horse's rears and kissa$$ and rashes to consider.

I think we are all right and I am pretty sure that Jim used an angry face when he was realy just trying to use a frown face. And I don't know about you two, but I KNOW I'm RIGHT! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Whatever Jim said or meant or later qualified, I think he heard from enough of us that he respects that it might have changed his view a little. I know he has a young'un and I bet he was reeling from something so close to home for him.

Anyway...we all know how to kiss and haname (thanks Mar') and that's my $.04 and I'll go shutup now!

Mellie2162 - You did nothing wrong...I'm glad you posted here (80% of the time, I'm only looking at the DVC boards!). Things tend to get heated very easily on these boards...why...I suspect because we can't see the body language and hear the tone of voice that normally goes along with a face to face conversation :confused3 ...

Geez - talk about price gouging! You better be right for that price. I can get two opinions from wtpclc for the price of one from you. Wouldn't matter though, since you're all wrong and I am High Emperor of Rightland. Maybe.

Thanks for lightening things up Rash! For you, though, I'd give you as many opinions as you want for free! I may even give your more opinions than you want. I'm just a really giving person that way! ;)

Actually, looking back on the thread, it was idratherbeinwdw who said "my .02". So I should have said that I could get two opinions from idratherbeinwdw for the price of one from ColoradoBelle1. My bad.

Nonetheless, not much is free these days so your offer of abundant free opinions is appreciated! Even when they sometimes do conflict with the by-definition correct opinions of The High Emperor of Rightland.

Since Colorado Belle said we should kiss and make up here you go Rashie-Poo--(on the end of your snout, not the other end):

:love2:

Hey since you mentioned liking the word absurd Rash, do you know the song with the lyrics:

There was an old woman who swallowed a fly
I dont know why she swallowed the fly
perhaps she'll die
There was an old woman who swallowed a spider
That wiggled and jiggled and tickled inside her
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly
i don't know why she swallowed the fly
perhaps she'll die.

The verses keep getting sillier until you get to one that goes like this:

There was an old woman who swallowed a bird
How absurd to swallow a bird!

The last line of the song goes:

There was an old woman who swallowed a horse
She died of course.

Somehow seemed appropriate to post this since it includes absurd and horse in the same song.

But what happened to the horse?????

you...

kissed...

him.....

:scared1: :faint:

someone bring the 409...start some water boiling....get some bleech...get SOMETHING dang it! She kissed the horse (I have this image ala Lucy and Snoopy at the moment).

This whole thing at EPCOT has been so hard on all of us that love children, families and Disney. I will admit to being glad we have a place to escape if we choose as well.

Aha--I think that is where our buddy Rash sprung from. After the old lady swallowed the horse and died the horse popped out. All that remained of the old lady was her voice. Voila--Rash the talking horse! :goodvibes
