Four Months of Disney Dining! Final Updates 5/18

So disappointed the food was not better at Park Fare. We are trying breakfast there next month. The characters looked like lots of fun.

I love the tye dye cheesecake. It is the best! Now for my next trip to Disney I need one of those adult grilled cheese :)

I've heard of so many bad reviews of 1900 Park Fare. Thats really too bad! That grown up grilled cheese looks awesome though!

Gretchen, I  your top in the pictures above. Oh....and the reviews are great, too! My DDs are heading to Disney the first week in May-first time on their own-and I'm going to direct them to your blog to get of sense of the foods available. :goodvibes

You know, in all 5 times I've stayed at POP, I've never had the tie dye cheesecake? Don't know why. I don't usually eat at the food court so maybe next time I want a late night snack after a day in the parks I'll pick up a slice!

Where are you eating next?

It's not the best photo, but I do have a pic of the calzone from Pop;

The characters were a lot of fun; hopefully you'll have a better experience than I did.

Definitely try it if you get the chance!

I've heard dinner isn't all that great, but I was surprised that breakfast was so average.

If they have any questions I'd be happy to answer them!

It was really good and you should totally try it.

Enjoying the reviews. Looking forward to more! Thanks!

That is indeed the calzone! Thanks!

Riverside Mill Lunch 3/21
I went to Typhoon Lagoon again on this day, and after a downpour and some time on the beach, I ended up at Port Orleans Riverside. I remembered they have a make your own pasta station, and that's what I went for. My order was pretty simple: fettuccine, alfredo sauce, shrimp, and parmesan cheese. They cooked it up for me right there, plus added a breadstick. Then I got a brownie, paid, and found a table.

That box wasn't very big, but there was a lot of pasta in it, so it was very dense! The breadstick was awesome. I couldn't finish all the pasta, but it was pretty good-not quite the shrimp fettuccine from Red Lobster that I had been craving, but pretty close.

And that was my brownie, which I ate every last bite of because it was delicious.

Cantina de San Angel Lunch 3/29
This Thursday I went to Epcot several hours before my shift started, and I finally went to the Cantina. I wanted to try the Nachos after a strong recommendation from a friend. The menu description is corn tortilla chips with ground beef, nacho cheese, fresh tomatoes, jalapenos, black beans, and sour cream, but I asked for it without the jalapenos. It took a bit for my order to be ready, but I guess that's good because I know it was prepared just for me. I took my tray and found a table inside La Hacienda overlooking the lagoon.

This was really pretty good, with one minor complaint. I prefer my meat to not be "runny" or greasy, and this was. I prefer a dryer taco meat, but this wasn't bad by any means. If you like nachos, I recommend going here!

Liberty Tree Tavern Lunch 4/2
This day was my 21st birthday, and a friend from work (Jennifer) and I had a lunch ADR for LTT, as I remembered it being an unexpected delight two years ago. Our original reservation was for three, but when my roommate dropped out unexpectedly, there was no problem changing it when we checked in. The waiting area was a little chaotic as there was a party of 27 plus their three Disney tour guides who had also just checked in.

Jennifer and I were seated in the room to the left, next to a window where we might have been able to see the afternoon parade if we had stayed long enough (our ADR was for 11:40, and the afternoon parade was slated to begin at 12:30).

I remembered that the Tavern Fried Cheese was very good two years ago, so that's what I chose for my appetizer. Much to my disappointment, the cheddar bites had been removed, leaving only the mozzarella sticks, but still costing the same amount. The sticks were good, but I thought the cheddar bites were unique and I missed them.

For my entree, I went with the specialty item of the house: Tavern Keeper's Pot Roast.

This was delicious! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I was a little wary of the $18 price tag, but not to worry, I was able to take the leftovers home and got two more meals out of them! The potatoes were soft and creamy, the meat was tender, and the vegetables were perfectly cooked. I would get this again in a heartbeat.

For dessert, I ordered the Fruit Crisp, and chose blueberries as my fruit (the other option was strawberry rhubarb). Our server and company came over and sang me Happy Birthday. The dessert was disappointing. The ice cream two years ago was smooth and creamy and delicious, and this stuff was like frozen skim milk that was starting to thaw. The crisp was okay, but the blueberries were just alright. Would stick with the Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake next time.

I'm going to hold off on coming here for a while again because this just wasn't a great experience.

Sunshine Seasons Dinner 4/2
Since this is one of my favorite restaurants, of course we had to eat here for my birthday! But strangely enough, nothing really sounded great, so I asked if I could have the kid's sandwich choice of a Pizza Panini and they said yes, and gave me an adult portion, plus a side of my new favorite chips! And for dessert I chose the Banana Cake.

The panini was delicious, and I'll definitely ask for this again in the future. And the banana cake may have taken the place in my heart previously reserved for the strawberry shortcake-it was that good!

Tambu Lounge 4/2 and Hurricane Hanna's 4/3
Because Monday was my birthday, I had to have a drink, of course! So we went to the Polynesian and the Tambu Lounge so I could get an Island Sunset, which I had heard was good for light drinkers. This was true, as I didn't find it overwhelmingly alcoholic. It was fruity and tasty.

The next night, while I was waiting for my friends to arrive at Beaches and Cream, I stopped by the pool bar and asked if they still had the Sunken Treasure (the recommended drink over on the Y&BC thread), as I didn't see it on the menu. Unfortunately, the bartender couldn't remember exactly what was in it, so I chose the Pina CoLAVA instead. She was very excited that I had literally just turned 21.

This was also pretty good. I'd had the non-alcoholic version two years ago at Kidani Village, and truthfully, it's fine without the rum. So either way, it's a win win.

Beaches and Cream Kitchen Sink 4/3
My friends and I wanted to get a Kitchen Sink for my birthday on 4/3. I stopped by around 9:15pm to check on the wait for an estimated party of 8, expecting it to be a while. The hostess at the podium said we could be seated right then, as she had two four tops available, but as I was the only one there, that wasn't going to work. I explained that I just wanted to check the wait time, and she got a little bit snippy about how she couldn't hold tables. I repeated that I knew she couldn't hold tables and that's not what I was asking her to do anyway, and said the whole party would be back in an hour and we'd try then.

As it turned out, my party of eight became a party of five. Although only three of us were there at 10:15, the other two were working at Epcot and came shortly after. We were seated at a table for four. And then we had another person show up unexpectedly, making a party of six. We were fine being squashed around the table, and our waiter didn't have a problem with it, but at one point, the hostess walked by and said, again with some snark, "This is only supposed to seat four..." Eventually, we decided to spread out, and we were able to get the table next to us as well.

When everyone was finally accounted for, we ordered the Kitchen Sink. One member of our party also ordered some fries and his own make your own sundae. The whole restaurant sang Happy Birthday to me, which was nice. Then it was time to dig in. The sundae was fine, but my only complaint is the milky way bars were frozen solid! No possible way to eat those without breaking a tooth.

The waiter was extremely generous when my party decided they were going to pay for me, and easily split up the check among four different credit cards. I thought he was a saint for doing this, but since that night two of our party found out they had been grossly overcharged and we've all been called in to sign "witness statements" about what could have happened. :scared1:

I'm glad we did this, but the hostess really put a damper on the evening.

Happy belated 21st! Looks like you had a great birthday!
That make your own pasta looks so good!

Happy belated birthday, Gretchen! It looks like you needed those 6 or 8 friends to help you eat that whole Kitchen Sink. Wow is that thing huge! :goodvibes

Happy Belated Birthday!! I just found your reviews and read the entire thread. Thank you so much for taking the time to take the pictures and write this all out. I love seeing all the fun you are having! :thumbsup2

My daughter was just accepted into the Fall Advantage/College Program. She was placed in Full Service Food & Beverage and starts in August. I am going to have her come take a peek at this thread!
