I have a similar idea for DD...but I can not find plain white tshirts for toddlers. I've tried EVERYWHERE (Target, Walmart, etc.) All I could find were onesies. Any ideas or leads?

That's funny. I've always been able to find Garanimals t-shirts in toddler sizes at Wal-Mart. Have you tried a craft store (Michael's, Hobby Lobby, etc.)? They usually have an XS (size 2/4) in their craft t-shirt section. They run small, and can even be shrunk (wash and dry on HOT) if needed.

I love to craft and sew, but I am a dummy when it comes to ironing things on, so please dummy down for me. How the heck did you do those t-shirts? are they cut from fabric or are the transfers. However, I happened to be in Target this afternoon and lo and behold...I found a few! They are really cute too - very girly with cap sleeves. I'm so excited to get going on this project!

Thank you! I'm glad you like them. It's really easy. Do you have Photoshop? If not, you can download a 30-day trial version (not sure of the website, but I'm assuming it would be at adobe.com) For the necktie shirt, I used the pattern on crapivemade.com and adjusted it so that it would be the right size (in photoshop, of course!) Then I printed it out, got a piece of fabric and interfacing called Heat N Bond lite from JoAnn fabrics. The interfacing is two sided and machine washable...best invention EVER! Anyway, just adhere the bumpy side to the fabric with an iron (face up.) Flip the interfacing to the other side where it's lined with paper. Then trace your necktie pattern and cut it out. The last step is to iron it on to your shirt...so easy, right? I took it a step further and hand-embroidered it with some black embroidery thread just to make it 'pop.' You could also satin stitch around the edge as well, but I was too afraid my machine would eat my shirt! The Mickey bar one was done the same way...only I typed out his name using "Minnie" font in Photoshop. I also created the Mickey bar from scratch using shapes in Photoshop. I reversed the images and printed...then follow the steps above. Let me know if I've confused you. There are a few tutorials on how to use Heat N Bond on youtube if you just poke around.

So...last night's project was so much fun! I attempted a cute little jumper-style shirt and I actually am thrilled with the result:

I wanted to put a Minnie head on the bodice part of the shirt...or should I just leave it alone? What do you think?

...Oh, now it makes sense. You're in CT, where obviously there's no need to have short sleeved shirts in the middle of winter! Here in Texas, it's a lot easier to find T's and tanks.

I really want to make a matching headband/bow but my DD has such ridiculously fine blonde hair that everything falls right out (even those no-slip clips!)

Have you tried the stretchy headbands on her? Many of my friends use these for little ones with no/fine hair. They create a loop on the headband, then attach the bow to the loop. So, let me see if I got it right:

So, let me see if I got it right:

So far, so good...but I think you missed a step in the middle there. Before you cut the letters out of fabric, you have to bond the fabric to the heat-n-bond first. It's kind of difficult to explain (not to mention I'm a total visual learner) so I should direct you to a helpful youtube video that I found:

Fast forward to about 1:25 and you can see how she bonds the fabric to the bumpy side of the heat-n-bond, flips it over and traces the pattern on the papery side, then cuts it out. Then you can peel the paper off, position it to the shirt, and then iron it on. No pins required. I hope that didn't confuse you! Please post a pic of your finished product! I can't wait to see it!

Right? DS was dismissed early from school due to the snow (completely unexpectedly...what's up with that, Mark Dixon?) I just can't deal with another snow day tomorrow. We had a delayed opening yesterday, an early dismissal today, and probably either a closure or a delay again tomorrow. Ugh...this poor kid is SO out of his routine and it's making him nuts.

I was supposed to run out to the fabric store this morning since we all thought that the snow was supposed to begin around 5 pm but it ended up coming fast and furious by 9 am, so...it was a no-go. I was so irritated because I really wanted to pick up some fabric for my new project...a Cinderella ball gown! SO excited! Anyway, in my house snow = projects (so mama doesn't go completely insane!)

Lookie what I finished this afternoon:
A new dress for our day at AK for DD:

I still need to add a black swiss-dot boutique bow to the Minnie head (which I was planning to pick up this morning...grr.)

and...

I found a plain white t-shirt! They finally cleared all of the Christmas stuff out at my local Target and started putting out spring stuff! YAYAY!

Again, I still need to add the pink swiss-dot boutique bow to the Minnie head.

Pardon the random shadow at the bottom...I have no idea what happened there.

And - a matching skirt!

The skirt is kind of lying strangely...the ruffle looks better in real life! These were actually shorts that I found lying next to the aforementioned shirt at Target. They were on sale for $3.50 (how can you beat that?) I just cut them up, and...it's a skirt! I'm thinking about putting some black ricrac where the denim meets the ruffle...what are your thoughts?

Ahhh..I see. I was imagining the old-school paper patterns and thinking I needed to turn the printed/cut letters into a pattern. But you just trace it directly onto the back of the Heat-n-Bond paper. Brilliant!

I'm going to make tote bags for my oldest kids for our trip so that they can keep track of their own stuff. This idea will help me personalize them!

Hello! I thought I would stop lurking and say "Hi" too! I love your PTR and all of your projects. I am currently working on Activity books for my twins based on the ones you have posted. We are driving! Your shirts and outfits are awesome!!!! We leave in 17 days!

This snow is making us crazy too! I can't take it anymore. I am a teacher and my class is falling apart. Plus if I have to spend another day or two trapped in the house with 2 stir crazy 4 year olds dying to leave for Disney, I am going to need to be committed.

Oh, yeah, I know Mark Dixon! He's one of my favorites (although I miss Geoff Fox desperately!) They were forecasting 4-8 inches last time and we ended up with 19!" Insane. Now another 12+" for tomorrow/Wednesday PLUS ice? This is just not right!

Yeah...another neighbor! I hear you on being trapped...I am going to go insane if my kindergartener has any more days off. They are starting to take away his April vacation!

I would love to see your activity books...aren't they fun to make? Are you going to have them bound too?

So - for my next trick, I present...Cinderella's gown!

It's made of cotton fabrics so that it won't be so heavy and warm in Florida sunshine and humidity. I am working on creating a little white ruffly underskirt to give it more fluff since the white hip peplum pieces pull it inward and makes it hang strangely. DD loves it, though...she recognized it right away as 'Rella's gown! She ran over, grabbed it and hugged it. Cutest thing EVER! I let her try it on and she pranced around in it all night. I just bought some magenta and white satin to make an Aurora gown, but I think that one will stay home with us and will be used just as a dress-up gown. Not sure how well satin 'breathes' in Florida, you know?

Also, I added some ricrac to the bottom of the skirt...I think it ties in the black of the Minnie head well, don't you?

I added a small boutique bow to the Minnie head as well:

Next up: Aurora's gown!
