Oh what a tangled web I have woven. I have done myself a great injustice and I can see it spiraling down hill from here.

We went out to eat the other night at our local diner. I reall really wanted a burger.....couldn't bring myself to it, so I got a piddly open faced hot roast beef sandwich. Felt great about dinner, and I must say that I didn't feel one bit guilty about splitting the peanut butter lovers ice cream sunday with DH ..... First Mistake

Second Mistake.....worked all night went into the gym at 5am worked out until 6. I was sooooo hungry on the way home from work I just had to stop at McDonald's and get a bacon, egg, and cheese bagel. What and I doing??????? Felt totally guilty.

Third Mistake.....again worked all night went into the gym at 5am worked out until 6. Craving a donut ..... go to local gas station pick up 2 Krispy Kreme's. OMG .... I am nuts!

Fourth and Final Mistake ..... total repeat of yesterday.....2 more donuts.

Ok, I can blame this on a total break down or I can blame it on the fact that I am getting my monthly visitor in a couple of days. I am inclined to believe that my break down has something to do with the latter.

I am sitting here typing this at work and all I can think about is another bacon, egg, and cheese bagel from McDonald's. I was so proud of myself for going to the gym and working out and staying on the very low end of my points. Now I am just disappointed in myself.

All I keep thinking is this too shall pass.......WILL IT????????

Thanks for letting me vent. I hope I can control myself and not go to McDonald's on my way home :-(

Oh Melissa! I get terrible cravings around TOM also! I know donuts and Mc D's aren't part of any healthy diet, but look at the good things. You recognise your weaknesses, and you are continuing to exercise. The exercise alone will cover up a multitude of food sins.::yes:: You may see a slight gain, but dont beat yourself up too much. Woth TOM approaching and the salt laded Mc Bagel, that would be expected. Try to stay on plan and remember that you can keep driving past Mc D's today on the way home and fix your own yummy breakfast. Just think of something you like at home and focus on how good that will be, and put the Mc Bagel right out of your mind. You can do it!

Keep the Faith!

I am very proud to say that I made it past McDonald's this morning. When I got into the car I was so tired all I wanted to to was to get home. YEAH!!!!!! I think this all will pass in a couple of days. Today starts my 4 days off of work. I don't have problems until I am at work so I don't think I am going to worry about it until I go back in Thursday night. As long as I keep exercising I should be ok.

Thanks for the support!

HI............
perhaps you should try and eat before you work out.
Alot of folks say they like to eat after because they wont ruin what they have just done.....that theory is not working for you (nor does it for me) but...I have experimented with both eating before and after the gym. I like to eat before. I tend to be very hungry after I workout if I dont eat before and I use working out as a reason to eat whatever after not the other way around.
Being that you work over night.. bring something to work with you and eat right before you leave to go workout.....May heko in your workout and perhaps you wont be hungry when you leave........or at least till you get home......
goodluck

How much/what do you think I should eat before hand? I don't want to eat a full meal and I am not sure a snack would satisfy me. Any suggestions would be helpful.

I think something filling, like baby carrots (2g fiber/serving), would be a great choice for before and then maybe have something already packed for after. If you pack it ahead of time and eat it before you leave the gym, maybe you'll be too full to stop and eat on your way home. Just a thought--good luck! :) You can do it! ::yes::

And drink water too! That always helps to fill me up whenever I'm having a weak moment. ::yes::

Couple of comments: 1) DO NOT beat yourself up after something "bad". It's a waste of energy. You cannot change it. However, I'd assess the "feelings" you had right before the decision to get two donuts (one???maybe?)...or the stop at MacDonalds. Were you emotionally eating, something at the gym happened? Or was it pure hunger? (These types of questions will help you understand your "triggers" and how to side step them in the future, or eliminate them all together. *Hey, I paid for 2 years of therapy to get this info, I might as well pass it along!

2) I would eat a (are you on low carb?) low carb shake drink Atkins, or EAS prior to the workout and also drink H20. That might eliminate the "starving" phase you have afterwards. Have a piece of fruit on the way home, easy to pack in your gym bag.

Also, I've notice that TOM REALLY matters, but for me, I can go a little "nuts" and it doesn't seem to add to the scale, the hormones may drive you to eat, but someone burn the calories. Good luck!!! Try and make choices prior to putting things in your mouth! :earseek:

I think it was what it was ... just a craving. Once it was satisfied I haven't thought twice about eating the donuts or McD's again. I think that I was dieting so hard that I forgot to give myself a little break. It's ok for me to have a donut (it's just going to cost me 7 points) or McD's (it's only going to cost me 13 points). Or limit the donut or McD's to my off-diet days.

I think the key for me is to eat before I go into the gym. Today I worked an OT shift and I ate a big salad before going in. I was totally satisfied. However, I was a little hungry about 1 hour later so I ate a yogurt. That did the trick. I did bring a bag of baby carrots with me if I needed them, but I didn't.

Thanks everyone for your support and suggestions. I really appreciate it!

Melissa may I give you some words of advice from someone who gets those cravings A LOT!!

I'm on ATKINS, so my cravings are ALWAY for those carbs! I've been on Atkins since July as you can see by my siggy and wiping sugar out of my diet was a part of that. My first two weeks were miserable, I thought I was going to die! Nothing but veggies and meat those first two weeks!! UGH!!!!!!!! :worried: :headache: It didn't really become "easy" until people started to notice my weight loss. Right about the 20 pound mark is when that happened. I'm at 35 now and the difference is definitely noticeable. :teeth: ::yes::
Here is my struggle now...sometimes all I want are carbs....french fries, mashed potatoes, or baked potatoes. Those were my weakness and reason why I was never able to lose weight before. When that craving hits now, I take care of it, I have the french fries, BUT it's either at work or at home. I WILL NOT go through McD's or Burger King to satisfy that craving. At home I can make just enough to take care of me, usually less than what amounts to the carb serving and at work, I can "give" some of my FF away! :p ;) If I go without it too long, I set myself up to fail and then gain. I'm finally down 5 pounds only 2 pounds from ONEderland because I've got myself back on track. :hyper:
Sugar was also my downfall....my BIG downfall!! I was a sugar junkie!! A bag of tootsie rolls, a snickers bar, an oreo tallcake, and twinkies....all in ONE WEEK!!! It's no wonder I'm not a diabetic and my teeth didn't fall out. Speaking of teeth, my last visit to the dentist was AWFUL!! My cleaning hurt so bad because I had so much tartar on my teeth. I have three fillings now, but my Dentist told me for the amount of sugar I must have been eating, I still have beautiful teeth. :teeth: So I just refuse to put that much sugar back into my body again!! EVER!! I drive by Krispy Kreme almost everyday and while I drive by that HOT DOUGHNUTS NOW sign is blinking! OH IT KILLS ME! I know however that if I allow myself to have that FAT PILL right now, I would be in a world of trouble, so I don't! I replace that craving with a good one....ATKINS BARS OR SUGAR FREE ICE CREAM. I still have to watch the ice cream because the carb count is high, but it's safer than that "fat pill" from Krispy Kreme.
When it's TOM for me, that is really difficult. The carb craving hits hard and I have to nip it in the bud within the first two days or I'm a "biddy" by the third! It's usually on FF I want or the tortilla chips off of our salad bar. When I eat them, I'm fine, the craving is gone! :Pinkbounc It's weird you know...I just don't want the sugar anymore. Those tallcakes at work look so yummy, but I remember where they got me, so I avoid them like the plague! I did have a couple bites of a free one saturday and you should have seen me afterwards...BOUNCING OFF OF WALLS!! WHOO!!!

So what am I saying.....control your cravings by satisfying your cravings in moderation....that's the key....MODERATION. I agree about eating before you work out. See, I work out at home, Tae Bo, so I don't have to worry about over doing it at some fast food place. Fast food just isn't my cup of tea anymore, although I miss FIREHOUSE SUBS like you wouldn't believe, but I'll be okay til I reach my goal of 180. When I do, I'll have that sub and be happy about it. No chips though...no way!

If you do overdo it, DO NOT beat yourself up...it's pointless. You've done it so let it be over. I'm speaking from experience okay. ;)

Best to you and keep in touch!

Denise :wave2:

Denise ....... You described what I have been feeling/going through to a tee! Thanks for the words of wisdom!

On a side note.....even though I gave into my cravings I still lost a pound this week.

Moderation .... Moderation .... Moderation!!!!!!
